Your commentary on the flying is about as close as I've seen to a pilot's actual thought process as they are flying. Hi Ryan, Madang may have either a listening watch in multiple freqs and busy on another or the radio is in scan and a nice long call will stop it scanning and they hear the call. Tail winds mate.

Hello all ! The problem of the HF on the airplane is that the antenna is too short for those frequencies. So when you flying you have more chances to operate with this antenna conditions. The ATC may have an HF (high frequency) radio with its squelch setting requiring a longer transmission to activate. To overcome that, you can hold the PTT down for two seconds before you start talking. 4X1TQ

Spent my youth listening to Shanwick and Gander on the HF, could also pick up Cairo. I could hear both ground and the aircraft at times when they could not hear each other.

So being a Ham radio operator and a pilot myself I can help you with the HF thing a little. HF and most air-band radios are amplitude modulated (AM). This is the reason why with a slightly longer transmission or a louder transmission you can be heard. Also the wave length of the transmission is longer which is the rate of variance in the signal. This is why HF goes further than VHF.

Ryan, I have seen a previous video where you want to branch out to flying "mixmasta bilong Jesus Christ". I hope you get to do it. I spent 7 years in the western province and had a couple of friends who were early Kiaps. I have no doubt in saying those seven years were some of the most enjoyable times in my 60 plus years on this planet. I used to bludge rides with the Talair guys on weekends around the bips and ma´s and mins. I can just imagine what the original Talair boys would say to your ride these days. That thing is like a Piper Cub on steroids yet hauls a ton or more. I understand your feelings flying on a good day. PNG is just off the charts amazing to see but that bad weather and the cumulus granite has more victims than most watching your channel could imagine. Stay safe Ryan.

Derrick McLovin' , hello, but when I worked at my trade REFRIGERERATION/ AIR CONDITIONING, there were ‘air cooled roomed , where typically 160 ^F SURE you sweat but you stayed dry as it was so hot , NEVER WEAR A CHAIN, as it could BURN YOU as you worked on a given unit OH YES there were 4 or 6 six foot exhausts fans , , some stores had dampers, so they used that heat for the store heat, Been retired 17 years now , ccCheers 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Unless there are ideal conditions HF radio is pretty much always a noisy affair. Not knowing what equipment is being used there may be several adjustments; band pass; notch filters and so on that could be adjusted to cut down the noise level. Your talking longer may give the operator time to adjust these so that they have a better copy on you. With HF because one operator can hear the other operator doesn't mean the opposite is true. During this solar minimum HF communications are even more of a challenge do to the affects on the ionosphere. Great videos by the way. 👍

@@olddogg60 60 is rarely used, and hard to find equipment for. Also requires using only specific freq's, at least here in the states. I would strongly suggest to Missionary Bush Pilot that he takes lessons, at least, if not get his license, so he understands better the HF, since he is using it all thew time

It's the humidity which is killer, but it's *always* hot & humid like that up there. You need to allow for the impact temperature and humidity has degrading personal performance as well as aircraft performance. Doubly vigilant particularly during the pre-takeoff, take off and landing phases. Pays to be a stickler for procedures when the stress & fatigue it will try to persuade you to take short cuts. This is the dry season. The wet season is *much* worse. This guy is a good/pro driver. His experience is evident. Flying in PNG is a particularly challenging environment.

Hey Ryan, I have a long history in PNG, I was there in Goroka/Wabag in 1962 as a 6 week old. Then in Tufi/Popondetta when i was 8 in 1973. Have you landed in Popondetta? I remember one plane over shot and ended in the ocean. Love the videos a big reminder of the flights from Moresby to Tufi.

Hi, that aircraft is one of the cesnas, went to their website and it did not list the thrust. But did list the horsepower. Maybe they don't go by thrust for propellers? Oh well. Anyhow machines with 750 horsepower are very powerful. That is sharp.

Missionaries out in the bush used to use their HF radios to talk with the mission pilots. They would give runway condition and request an ETA. Do you still use this method or use the V2 tracker? Or done with a scheduler? Really enjoy your vlogs!

I was flight training in Victoria, BC, Canada... logged just over 30 hours before a "temporary detour" to work and save money... which lead me to a totally different career path. Hoping to resume my training soon as covid settles down, currently they're not offering much training. Beautiful part of the world to fly though!

My wife Dawn taught our two younger kids by correspondence while our eldest went to the APCM board school in Tari. I looked after 12 trade stores in the WP ran a 40 tonne ship the MV Kuku, brings many fond memories of those we worked with and for. We even used to water ski on the river, dodging the crocs!

The lower than recommended power settings are intended to extend engine life. A byproduct of that procedure is decreased fuel consumption.

I guess the operator have to monitor multiple frequencies (Lahore 6. Lumpur 9)If your call is short, the operator has no chance to look on witch frequency you are. In the initial call, state frequency used and approx position for rotating antenna into your direction. If no answer is received after the first call, do not change frequency immediately. The operator may be busy on another frequency . Wait a minute and try again. Witten in a old HF procedure manual.

Nice flight and scenery, as always, even with all the clouds! Great place to land at!! Do you even have trouble understanding some of your contacts?? Most are OK, but some, I have no idea what their saying! Didn't realize you had to spend night away from home and family!! Watched a 30 minute review of the new Microsoft flight sim. 2020. The narrator spent most of the last half showing hundreds of runways on PNG map!! Showed one, up close, with huge hill, 3/4's down the runway! Great detail!! May need to invest in one of those!!
