What’s crazy to me is I’ve been trying to learn this song for a while by ear and I got very close. Really, what I was doing was a modified version using the bar chord F, and since I’ve been playing it modified it never really sounded complete. Then I come across this video and you have the answers to how to truly make it sound like Mississippi. Great lesson!

@@FeedbackGuitarAcademy Thanks man, I will! I'm gonna tackle your "Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out" lesson next. Everybody does Clapton's version, but I wanted to learn the way Scrapper plays it... so thanks for that. I was wondering if you'd ever do a Big Bill Broonzy "The Glory of Love" lesson or "Hesitation Blues" by Jelly Roll Morton. There's a guy that does a great rendition of Hesitation Blues and I've always wondered what he's doing for it. Here it is if you're interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nH_YdJZ8idxnhqs ...regardless, thanks for what you do dude!

When I decided to finally commit to learning Travis picking, I would practice the alternating thumb motion listening to music while driving. On the leg, console, wheel, wherever. I’m convinced that it sped up the “muscle memory” process considerably for me.
@FeedbackGuitarAcademy Жыл бұрын
This is a great insight! Yes this is how you can speed up the process. You can use this process to learn so much! It can be almost just as effective as practicing on your instrument if you're doing it right. Thanks for sharing!

Anything special about the thumbpick you’re using? Thinking about trying one.
@FeedbackGuitarAcademy11 ай бұрын
Nothing special about it. I have a bunch of thumbpicks and I change them out depending on what Im playing. Some of them have sharper points that have more attack and some are more rounded. I started out with the more rounded Fred Kelly picks. I think they are good to start with because they are shorter.

Stupid queation (im new to this style): I tap food for rhytm but with this style on the beat and also on the "and". Is this bad? Feet tap along with tumb movement. With other guitar styles it doesnt happen, its just on the beat.
@FeedbackGuitarAcademy3 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. Tapping your foot is a good habit to help with keeping the beat. Tapping on the upbeats is fine as long as you're not playing too fast. As long as it feels like a comfortable speed you should be okay 👍
@Timo-893 жыл бұрын
@@FeedbackGuitarAcademy thanks so much for your response, really was conflicting with myself about this. It feels most natural to me so ill keep doing it, thanks
@joeralston8252 Жыл бұрын
I agree. I’m not a guitar teacher but I remind beginners to practice tricky parts very, very slowly at first, then gradually speed up, but make it a habit to tap their foot while playing. Beginners tend to want to stop when they make a mistake, but can break that habit by playing through their mistakes without losing a beat (Listeners are likely tapping too). You can always go back and slowly work on the tricky parts.
