I'm using a bait and technique that you may never tried to extract crappie from a Mississippi River brush pile.

I'm so reluctant to use artificial without live bait on panfish. But I was getting bit on plain ice fishing spoons this winter. So I guess I'll have to try 'naked' artificials more often!
@AnglerX

Bring your live bait for confidence and if you find fish experiment with the artificial baits.

Thank you for the answer. I have found over time with trials and tribulations that the sweet spot for me on line is 3lb. The line of choice is varivs line 3 lb sensitive and tough.

I find that fish in the Mississippi River aren’t line shy so I tend to go a bit heavier. Even ice fishing I generally use 6lb test.

Hi, do just float your boat among the timber or how do you work your trolling motor in there? Thank you
@AnglerX
@AnglerX 9 ай бұрын
I'll use the trolling motor to get close and move about the timber. Once I get into position against a tree limb I'll tie off to the tree or if the wind is right the boat might just stay there.

I've watched a number of your videos using different techniques for different species residing in the Mississippi River. When you get the opportunity can you share your opinion regarding the impact of fishing on the river after l recent spring flood? Your videos are very informative and provide great insight regarding identifying key locations on the river. Keep the videos coming and sharing the great information.

I think the high water changes certain backwater areas. Once productive spots can become silted in and will no longer hold fish while other areas that didn’t hold fish now become productive. One way to look at major flooding is as a cleansing of the land and waters of the Mississippi River basin. One negative impact is the increased levels of sand and soot that accumulates creating less than ideal habitat for resident fish species. The thing I love most about the Mississippi River is the constant change and challenge of locating all the fish species.

I gotta catch some crappie one of these days. How do you choose when to use a gold vs silver lure?
@AnglerX
@AnglerX Жыл бұрын
On this day they were eating both silver and gold so don’t think they had a preference. When fish are finicky, more so ice fishing, I may switch between colors to see if the prefer one over the other.

I’m a fan of the videos. How come you use six pound line.
@AnglerX
@AnglerX Жыл бұрын
The six pound is light enough to allow me to use light ice fishing sized baits but strong enough where I can still get fish up and out of the brush. If I get snagged it’s strong enough to get my lure back.
