So true! There were so many wonderful annual Christmas specials when I was growing up in the 60s & 70s (Bob Hope, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, the King Family of course, etc). All so entertaining & heartwarming.

The Al Burt referenced at 29:00 is now one of the most famous American carol composers in history. I believe he finished the harmonies on "Star Carol" just a day or two before he died.

Amazing, I learned about the King Family Singers from my father for I believe they had their own weekly primetime show on ABC around 1964, sometimes as many as 39 family members would appear on a show. Greatly appreciate this special being posted. Reminds me how much I miss Christmas as a kid.

🥰 I'm so very sorry for your dear mother's passing. I've lost both of my tas well. The grief that you feel is in some way a testament to the love you feel for the absence of your mother. She will be with you every time you think of her. Please don't distress. Look for the beauty like these old shows. Find . what helps to fill your heart. If there are days when this doesn't feel possible, talk to her, she will hear you. Bless you.

I wrote a note on the other hour long special from 65 that "we" watched the live broadcast of the King Family's Special every Christmas. I came from a large family but I don't recall that the King's were of the Mormon faith. I only mention this because of the light way they shared their Faith wth the rest of the world. No heavy handed proslitizing and yet very true in their love of their family and their faith. Their open hearts allow everyone watching at home enjoy their celebration without causing self conscious awkwardness or cyncism . Merry Christmas to you, Jennifer and to you Erin and to anyone who might read my message.

Wow - it's about time. Up until recently, the only You Tube videos of this TV show was one where they sang A Soalin and one where they sang Silent Night. I was wondering if one of the entire episode was ever going to get posted. Thank you!!!!!

Happy New Year, Moon. I'm a little confused by you note. Are you saying that you miss not having upbeat Christmas music or are you saying you prefer the mellow, slow Christmas music?

What's really strange is that just a few months before this TV Special aired, I was wondering "Whatever happened to the King Family?" because it had been years since they were last seen on TV, as they use to be all the time. Then, low and behold, this show came on in 1974 and put an answer to that question. BUT after this, as fast as they had reemerged to the public, they quickly disappeared all over again. Was this a one-time TV reunion? Did they ever perform after this? And have they stopped performing altogether today?

Such a beautiful instrument and she plays it so well. Thanks so much for sharing. Just lost my Mom and this brings her back this Christmas.

I'm so sorry to hear that. My cousin and I were The King Family's biggest fans growing up. We watched the same show 3 times a week.
