Today we go coastal foraging on the islands of Washington State! We dig for butter clams, harvest seaweed, encounter massive amounts of mussel, and even meet a couple crabs. Afterwards Mommy Oh makes soup with the fresh kelp, then clam chowder. It's my first time coastal foraging and I'm thrilled to share the peaceful scenery with you. Hope you enjoy this video ❤️ And special thanks to our family friend for introducing us to this nature-filled activity!
Remember to get your license and the latest updates on when & where you can forage. Also be sure to check the tide schedule in advance so you can plan your outing accordingly. Have fun and harvest responsibly!

Have you eaten seaweed before? If not, would you try it? Might look weird to those new to it, but oh boy, can it be tasty! Let me know what your favorite seafood is :) Note: This video was filmed in June 2020. I live in Thailand and have noticed Asians do not age like Westerners. Most Asian meals include fruit and a larger per-centage of their meal is vegetables and meat, if served, is in much smaller portions than the west. I have noticed they are more active than the average westerner. My wife is half-Tibetan and half Chinese and recently we were out at a store and the cashier could not tell my 50 year old wife from her 18 year old daughter. Regardz!

I'm glad you and Mommy Oh are getting to explore more of Washington. If you get a chance to go crabbing in Puget Sound it can be real fun, I know they canceled crab season last year in parts of the Puget Sound but I don't know about this year. Also If you're looking for bio luminescence I've heard from friends you can sometimes find it at Joemma Beach State Park, I've also seen it at Ocean City State Park near Ocean Shores but it's best on a clear night.

People who live in places where they can do this are so fortunate. I'm landlocked in Mid Michigan. This is another reason why pollution matters. Foraging can obviously save us a bit of money, allow us to get some exercise and even make healthy dietary choices. In rural areas in Japan, foraging is still enjoyed: mushrooms, bamboo, herbs, seaweed, clams, etc.

Omg....i havnt gone foraging for miyeok I ages! And Clam digging even longer! We used to also get limpets, and that hairy seaweed and there's a few other types of seawed we would eat. We also got those tiny crabs for banchan, and razor class and geodycks as well...and at the end we would make a huge pot of haemul jjigae it would be soooooo good! And even the kelp whips we would get and pickle. Then we would go to the mountains for gosari, and gaetnip and other herbs. It was great back then in the 90s. And it would all be so good....with all that fresh fish, and fresh game my dad would catch, we ate very well as kids.
