I purchased mainly rupicolous Laelias, but a few others as well. For the first time ever I received a bonus plant that I did not know I would receive!
I am pretty happy with my order and soon I will be making a video repotting these orchids, because we might revive the Seramis ;) I am not yet sure about it though..

I was lucky enough to visit the Lucke orchid nursery last month. Very friendly staff, and lots of orchids to look at as you can go through their greenhouses. Greatly enjoyed my visit, and got some nice plants from there too. Heartily recommended :)

Hi Danny , first of all happy birthday :) I live in Germany and indeed already ordered from Orchideen Lucke. It is the only nursery where I find "Durigan" Cattleya crosses and I had just like you the same experience. Plants not pot bound, relatively young but not too young. I did not get a bonus orchid though ;)

I live in Berlin and I ordered a couple of times from them. They are really fast (for Germany delivery time) and I was happy with the orchids all the times. They indeed need to be repotted in short time after receiving them, but were pretty healthy and nice. I was happy all time time. Indeed, two times I received a bonus orchid, but it can happen that with some deliveries to send only a fertilizer, which is also nice. Enjoy the weather in Cyprus! I am a big fan of your channel, specially after I moved to Germany and I found a huge market for them here. Cheers from a fellow Romanian! :)

Just received my first order from them. Orchids are very healthy and strong. I got some cattleyas they just imported in March from Brazil, roots had to be cut but the orchids look strong enough to recover, looking forward. Orchids were packed dry so no problem at all during transport. They added a free fertilizer bottle which is very nice of them. Happy with my order.

Greetings from Brazil, and happy birthday! *1st sorry for the poor english. Hoffmannseggella, is the former "suggested" genus for all the brazilians rupiculous laelias (before they all became cattleyas). And if i'm not wrong, it is now a section under cattleya (for these rupiculous "one-leafed" "cattleyas"). And is also how we refered to all these plants here in brazil (nobody board in these "everything is cattleya" rework lol). They are easy to grow but be carefull, these amount of bark, and at these size of pieces is far away of being a good option for Hoff's. Small rock are the best option always. Here we sometimes use a little amount of bark or other "woodie" materials (husks of macadamia nuts normally), and even some organic dirty (for some species only). But always with ate least 50-70% rock. Small rocks/gravel or coarse sand. If you have acess to laterite, ir is a good component to use with hoff. most species grow in areas where the rocks have a high iron content.. All of them loves and needs high light (a lot of them grow on full exposure to sun), but some that are from the highest mountains cannot tolerate high temperatures. Some species have difficult to thrive even here in brazil, sometimes in the same city where they grow (but in a lower altitude)

i already orderd 3 times from them i a often also got quite big plants with a good rootsystem .. i like how every plant (usually) has new growths or new roottips .. i never got a 'standing still' plant witch is awsome . i like this nursefy a lot for me the transport was very fast in one or two days .. Happy Birthday! Also Danny, I would rethink the rock setup that you were talking about in this video. I am very sorry, but from my research about these orchids and growing them in a home environment require WAY WAY more watering if you pot them in rocks. And from my experience watching your channel, you always try to avoid setups that require excessive watering. Maybe try one of them in the rock setup and the others in a setup that includes rocks. If I'm not mistaken all those Cattleya (former Laelia) were imported from Brazil very recently, this year as you said, most of them were rootless because of the import and only a few months to grow whatever roots they have. The Hoffmansiella thing is a genus some taxonomists suggested for some of the rupiculous species. I have a friend that grows some of these and he uses a mix of sand with rocks and stuff a experienced grower recommended, so good luck with your choice of media!

You are right about the Hoffmannseggella, it was suggested before all the brasilian laelias (brasilaelis , hadros etc) become cattleyas... But we still use these "genus" to talk about all the rupiculous laelis in here. And i maybe wrong, but i think that Hoffmannseggella is now a section in cattleya, with all thos south american rupiculous species.

I have many orchids from Lucke and in my opinion it’s a very good nursery. Many times the plants are freshly potted as yours because they import them. One piece of advice I have for you is to isolate them until you report - I have found so many and different bugs and creatures inside.

Danny, congrats! I will suggest you to add iron pieces in the laelias media. Could be old nails, whatever can rust and add this rust in the substrate. I did this long, long ago when I lived in Brazil and my orchid friends said I was crazy... BUT my laelias grew and bloomed intensely after that. It happens they usually grow over iron rocks and take advantage of the rust, or maybe just are adapted to it. They will certainly feel more are home than any normal media. I got a very bad Laelia milleri here and since I added the rust the plant doubled its size. There are areas some studies about it on the web if you want to go deeper. Happy growing!

Hi, I did read about their iron rich habitat and you're not the first to mention rusty iron, around here they do it too :) but it is a bit if a health hazard, so I'll use some volcanic rock (which has iron) and some iron supplements instead hehe I'm a bit over worrying when it comes to these things 😋

Hi, well I grow them just like Cattleyas, except for these ones which I will grow in mineral media, as they are rupiculous. The others I grow in bark and moss :)

Miss Orchid Girl, you are many things, but one thing you are not is just a "normal customer"! Regarding the Parviflorae series of the section Cattleya of the subgenus Cattleya of the genus Cattleya - yes that's where we're at with these things - many of us have found them a challenge to grow. My outdoors growing area is usually very low humidity, with dramatic temperature changes, and the time I tried a rupicolous Laelia (when they were called that) I failed. Even Andy (of Andy orchids) has a comment about them on one of his videos, of the challenge they have been for them. One problem appears to be that people want to treat them alike, though the different species can have quite different requirements from each other.

Hi, thanks for the tip, I actually picked them to be quite similar in requirements, only one is a bit different, will need to check orchid species website again :) but I tried to stay away from the ones that really need colder climates, I can usually get away with orchids that are more in the intermediate range :) but we'll see, it's a new challenge! 😄

Some of the formerly rupicolous Laelia went by the genus name Hoffmannseggella. For the sake of having to speak these things allowed, I'm glad that genus name was retired.
