I bought a phal (some kind of hybrid (summer?) that kept blooming from its spikes) with a terminal spike a few years ago, but it seemed healthy so I continued on taking care of it and it kept pushing out flowers and spikes. About a year ago, I included a bit of seaweed extract when watering and it somehow pushed/squeezed out another leaf from beside the terminal spike, then pushed out a kind of keiki from the side of the stem. It's doing great and pushing out a few more new spikes - growing away!

I have been following you tips for about four months now on my orchids and my three supermarket half dead rescues. All are doing amazingly better than before. My oldest orchid is sprouting better shiny leaves and a new stem.... my rescue cambrias are sprouting multiple flower stems as well as one that has split into a Y and flowering.... my £1.75 rescue orchid has been holding its flowers for nearly two months now AND sprouting new off shouts. They've never looked so good! Appreciate your posts so much!

I love watching your new haul video even though they make me a little envious. I have recently moved to northern Alberta Canada where the grocery stores have lots of beautiful phalaenopsis but that's it. The flower shops don't carry any live plants and I cant find any place to buy pots. I guess this spring I will be doing some online shopping.

Hi Danny. Always enjoy your hauls, your enthusiasm can be infectious. Gosh if this was during the spring I’d be bouncing around in every orchid show in my area. I had a phal with a terminal spike with a keiki next to the spike and another on the stem. Got two for the price of one. Both keikis doing great in the same pot.

That red Sharry Baby -lookalike one at 6:53 reminds alot of my alleged Burrageara Lazio from Inca Orchids. I got mine for a couple of euros in the grocery store with fading flowers so the ID is a good guess at best. It is steadily progressing a new growth so maybe flowers for me next spring/summer. 🤗

Love your videos and those gorgeous oncidiums! Today I had a hard day in my little orchid world. I found mealy bugs in one, a painting fell on top of my recovering miltoniopsis and my Nelly Isler so I had to re pot them but lost the flowers. My husband went to get me a new phalaenopsis to cheer me up, and it had root rot 😭 so we are returning it tomorrow. So now I’m just chilling with a glass of baileys and enjoying your videos 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

Hey Dani! I recently watched a video that showed how to get a keiki without the paste. I understand if you want to use the paste for research, but if you just place the cut spike into a humid, warm, closed container with very slight ventilation and plenty of moss, the spike will usually produce a kieki on its own. I love your videos!

Hi, well sadly that isn't a very accurate video in my opinion and, as an experienced orchid grower, I believe its main purpose is to get clicks and possibly ad revenue, not to educate. I am not interested in tricking people to click on my videos with lies, so you won't see such inaccuracies on my channel, but anyone is free to do whatever they like with their orchids and decide what is true and what is a lie for themselves 😋

Hi Danny, nice plants. For the NOID, try to look for: Stirbic 113, Blazing lustre (the deep red), Chayenne 5, Bartley Schwarz Highland, Barocco red. I went to Inca recently and took some pics of their catalogue to remember what I bought, so some of the names come from it. Not official names thoug. I have one fragrant odontoglossum they called Dolly Dot which is also a mistery... Let me know if you find out the ID, and thank you for all the good videos!

Really enjoyed this video. I have a mini-phal with a terminal spike that couldn't be seen when I bought it. However it has given me great joy with 3 original spikes, and a total of 35 blossoms. There are still 21 remaining after 4 months! Now I see a basal keiki! I'm excited. It seems to grow a bit every day. Since I live in the US, all of my mixes, fertilizer and pots come from rePotme.com with wonderful results. Thank you, Dani, for all of your guidance. My 12 Minis are happy kids because of you, and Momma is happy, too!

I just got the purple variety which the Inca Orchids website lists as Stirbic Red, along with Odontoglossum Nippon (which is both beautiful and fragrant). I would be very interested in knowing if Stirbic Red is the correct ID for this plant, as it looks quite different from the red variety, which you can also find tagged as Stirbic Red on the net.

Hi great video thanks for sharing :-) I have two questions, the first is it ok to pot 2 to 3 PHALA in one large pot? And second question is which new species would you recommend when ready to add to PHALA collection? Ok one more question which PHALA have an aroma? I know they exist but I’ve never smelled one. Thank you

Loved seeing your new orchids. I especially like the new phal. It is very unique. I watched another KZbinr video on orchids yesterday in which the presenter recommended using Dyna-Gro KLN liquid root growth enhancer on orchids. I wonder if you have ever tried this product or something similar with your orchids. Do you have a video on root growth enhancers? If not, would you consider making an experiment on some orchids in the future? I am curious as to how much the root growth enhancers actually affect orchids. Thanks for taking the time to make interesting videos on orchid culture. I find them very helpful.

@@MissOrchidGirl Thanks for such an honest answer to my question. I know that rooting powders do work on garden plants other than orchids as I have had a great deal of success with them. I wonder if the liquid rooting hormones actually do help seedling orchids produce more roots. Do you think the mass produced orchids that are grown in large corporate nurseries use them successfully?
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 5 жыл бұрын
I use rooting powders sometimes for cuttings too, they work, but that's because they are applied on stems and stimulate certain growth hormones present there. Orchids are not multiplied by stem cuttings, but by seed, or tissue culture. So rooting hormones are not used by mass production nurseries, there are other techniques used by laboratories specialized on orchid propagation ( which is very different than any other plant seed propagation). It's a complicated process and google will show you more than me on the subject ;) ps: reread that, if you mean rooting hormones applied to seedlings, I doubt it. Seedlings have good root systems formed in the agar based medium from the flask :)

Funny, I bought the Aliceara marfitch renaissance coral, the PALE one and few weeks afterwards I bought what I thought was the same but with bigger blooms and more vibrant colouration just as shown in your video. The pseudobulb of the pale was dehydrated while the big bloomed one was plump so I assumed that was the reason. Also one of the blooms of the big bloom one did had paler colouration (stronger pale green background). So now I am confused rather it's the same hybrid or not.. The dehydrated one has plumped up now so I guess I'll see once they rebloom! I look both varieties though!

Your orchids are so pretty! My Oncidium ampliatums are too small to flower yet. I seem to be having some pesky snow mold that is growing on my orchid roots and the pseudobulbs themselves. I repotted it and had to remove old pseudobulbs that were turning black. I used both hydrogen peroxide and original listerine in an attempt to prevent more mold. It came back in 3 days, so I just repeated the spray again. It seems to be coming back on the cut rhizome that is not drying out quickly. I did not put cinnamon on it, since I only have the run of the mill McCormick spice and you said to use a specific kind. Should I go out of my way to get a special fungicide or just leave the orchids unwatered for awhile?
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, well I don't know what to say about fungicides, I am not a fan and never used them. But I would go back to the reason mold appears. The rhizome might have small dried leaf remains on it, that are decaying and attracting mold. Try to see if you can clean it better. Also too much moisture helps molds, so maybe you can improve air freshness and circulation. Not watering the orchid will help, but if the orchid needs water, then it needs water. A bit of mold might not be that bad though and once those dried things disappear, it will disappear too since there will be nothing to feed upon. So maybe don't try to eradicate it at any cost if it's not serious ;)

Could the deep red be a Masai Red?
@emilymelvin5771
@emilymelvin5771 5 жыл бұрын
I have what I believe to be a Masai Red, and it lacks the yellow/orange pigment that MissOrchidGirl's has just above the lip in this video. Also, the flowers are larger on mine and have longer petals, and I think she's already done a video on the Masai Red (please let me know if I'm wrong) so I assume she would have mentioned the name if she thought that's what it was. Nice guess though, they look incredibly similar! I had to check my pictures just to make sure since the differences are very subtle.

Hi Danny I know this is of the subject of this video but I really need help. I have a dendribium nobile that is barely hanging on. It has 2 very small canes that are about 2 inches tall. With them supposed to be in winter rest not sure what I should do since it is so small.
@MissOrchidGirl
@MissOrchidGirl 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, just skip the rest :) Maintain the orchid warm, water when the medium is dry as long as the cane grow and fertilize from time to time. If the canes are done growing, don't fertilize until new canes start to appear from the base and just water if the older canes shrivell. No need for cooler temps for now since the orchid is stressed :)
