Thank you 🙏 Is there a place where we can ask you questions about our orchids?
@HungryH1951Ай бұрын
This is just the information I was looking for. I have two orchids that I am trying to revive (they were gifts and they suffered neglect due to my not understanding how much water they needed). I bought an LED full spectrum grow light but had only been leaving the light on for 8 hours/day and also I kept it somewhat dim because I didn't want to burn the leaves. Now I understand from your shared information that 10-12 hours of light is needed and that I can brighten up my light a bit because it won't burn the leaves. One other thing, I repotted in straight sphagnum moss for the time being to help establish roots and they are doing much better. Eventually I plan to put them in a bark medium. I let the moss dry out a lot before watering.

The Barrina led lights are AMAZING! Eversince I have them, my orchids are doing super well, grow and even bloom during winter time!

Thanks Danny! This was very helpful! Especially knowing that you use the same lighting for both your phals and cattleyas. ❤

Thank you, you answered some questions I was wondering about grow lights. I got a LED grow light for some mini cattleyas. I hope they will do better than the window light they were getting

Love this video 😍 informative as always. I use led strip lights and normal led panels. And i think so far it works well, as they grow well the leaves. I cant say much because i just started it this year. I will know in november or december when they start to spike! But i notice something that phal mini mark do better under natural light in the morning and artificial light in the afternoon. Maybe also because it prefers the warm (because i live in France and it is colder than usual this year)

Hi Dani this question is off the subject , I recently bought a Dendrobium Airy Wealthy Stripe, since I bought it two of the canes are growing arial roots? half way up the canes. Are these actual roots and leave alone or the beginning of keikeis? See photos if I can attach them. 😊 the roots are about 2 inches.

This is just the info I needed right now! I have my orchids in a room where they get about 5 hours of indirect light throughout the day, but it's not super super bright. I also have my ceiling light on in that room for about 15 hours a day. I'm wondering if I should invest in a grow light just to supplement the sunlight (since the ceiling light doesn't really do much)?

I use centimeters too lol. 😅 Great video buy the way.

Perfect timing! I just went and purchased a glass shelf from ikea, the tall narrow one. I was going to add just one 1ft led strip under each shelf. After watching an older Barrina set up video of yours, I see you have four strips per shelf. Would one strip be adequate, as I also have some natural light, just not enough. My phals are not spiking each year any longer.

Can you alternate natural light in summer and grow lights in fall thru winter,? Another scenarios part day natural light then switching to artificial? Cost challenges in Pacific Northwest...cloudy and cool!

Hi Danny - I love your bellina! I've been following her story, which makes it even more special. ❤ I might be a weirdo, but I do have fav plants from my orchid friends' collections. 😁 How are your gigantea and gigabell doing? I haven't seen them for a while and they are gorgeous.

Hi Danny. I dropped you a comment a few days ago about my Phal having a keiki and now sprouting a new flower spike. Turns out it's a new root. One of five! She's also getting new leaves. I'm not providing her a cool down in hopes she will devote all her energy to vegetative growth. But it was an interesting question. ❤

I have a couple of questions. If anyone could help me out I’d greatly appreciate it. I have a few orchids that I bought in bloom. The blooms have since died but I cut the spike back to first closed node to encourage more blooms from same spike. The spike still looks viable but it has been a while and nothing has really happened with them but I noticed a new spike growing much to my joy😊. But I’m wondering should I leave the old spikes or cut them all the way back? Also I have an orchid mounted on cork bark but it doesn’t seem to hold well with fishing line. Can I use a small of hot glue? Or how else can it be mounted? Thanks for any advice in advance

A person from our local orchid society told me to never cut a spike until it had completely dried. The spike will either produce a secondary spike with more flowers, a keiki, or the plant will absorb back some of the energy it took to create the spike. This is a heavily debated subject though.

Do you have a preference between self watering pots & regular pots that need to be watered & does it matter according to the orchid type ?

Hi Danny, I'm a beginner. I have a led barrina grow light yellow 2ft, 25 w. My phal, are blooming, and my noefinetia, this year, but not my procotovola golden peacock. 2 canes have shealth, but the buds do not appears. It takes how much times when the shealth appears to go to the bloom? Maybe the light is not powerfull enough , I have put two barrina of 2 feet, and the distance it's about 6 cm. Or maybe the temperature is not ok : in summer 29 C day and night 26 C, in autumn , the temperature goes down . I'm in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

One of the benefits of LED lights is that it doesn’t consume much electricity and also doesn’t generate much heat. If you use kitchen lights or standard fluorescent lights for your orchid like Danny does with grow lights, you are going to burn orchids

What is this white fuzzy stuff on my orchid?
@Andy_StokeАй бұрын
Probably mealybugs. Usually you'd need to cut the infested flowers and wipe the leaves with horticultural soap or something
@marshafrost1488Ай бұрын

@shirleytaylor9267Ай бұрын
Take a cotton swab, wet it with isopropyl alcohol, and dab on the mealybugs if your orchid doesn't have too many.

Sounds like Mealy bugs perhaps.
