Myth No. 1: There is always an exception: chilochista orchids (I know only this leafless species, maybe there are more..), but you shouldn't pot it at all ;). I love your work, you saved my orchids and they're truly grateful as am I! Spoiler: This is the first youtube comment of my life! What is working great for me now is having the phalaenopsis is these Orchid baskets to allow optimum airflow. As a substrate I am using the very coarse shredded coconut husk. Their roots are simply anchors which is exactly the same with tillandsia air plants.
@juusoblomqvist3633 жыл бұрын
Certainly some plants can be induced to flower using small pots for example Agapanthus. I have many large pots 50-80 cm deep with all sorts of plants from tiny to 3 m high with relatively same requirements planted all together. More important than a supposedly optimal pot size is the appropriate potting medium, lighting, watering, and fertilizing regimes. Allelopathy is a thing to consider in group plantings, but even my snake plants, succulents, cacti, and ZZ plants don't mind the abundant soil space.

Should you always remove the flower stalk once the blooms have dropped?
@bongadong60883 жыл бұрын
She have videos on this. I believe the title is called “what to do with orchids after blooms”
@stephaniemolina23433 жыл бұрын
I usually wait, if the actual flower stalk starts to brown and die then yes I wait for it to completely die off and then cut from the base, if it stays green I wait because sometimes it'll rebloom, give off a secondary spike or branch, or give a keiki, now I do this only if the orchid is healthy, if the orchid is not healthy then I do cut it off so it can focus its energy on leaf and root growth.

@SANDRA-ni3wi3 жыл бұрын
Hi Danni, maybe not so much related to this video, but speaking of Phaelenopsis: I have a mini Phal which after it bloomed produced a keiki. Then it produced another flower spike. So I removed the keiki and potted it up. I have heard of terminal flower spikes, but never have I noticed or heard of a flower spike going halfway up and ending up in a keiki. So now I have a keiki at the top of the flower spike, which has no roots, but as it is being fed by the mother, continues to grow happily. Even to the point of growing double the size of the first keiki and having a flower spike of her own. So now my mother is in spike, the keiki is flowering, and I am left wondering how the … I am going to promote root growth on this thing?Any suggestions?

Please, give me advice how to move orchids from hot Florida to cold Chicago! Should I even try?!
@kathleenvandewetering71663 жыл бұрын
My Vanda has attached itself to my concrete table top edge. I need to move it indoors as we are about to get to freezing temps here in the next few nights. Better to cover it and leave the roots attached? Or move it and break the roots (there are 3 attached roots). Kat
@poisonousnightshade10023 жыл бұрын
Give a good watering, wait 10 min, water again, wait 2 minutes and try to pry off the roots from the concrete applying slight pressure sideways. if the roots detach cleanly, good. If not, if there is enought length of the roots not attached to the table, cut as close as possible to the table with desinfected tools as to leave the maximmum amount of roots on the plant. Even if you cover the plant, there is a high probability of cold damage. Dead plants are dead, rootless plants are only unconfortable =D

Dani!! I need help, one of my phals this morning (one that I thought was healthy and doing just fine, has lots of blooms and buds still opening) roots are healthy, the leaves just turned yellow at the base and all the leaves fell off. I make sure to not get water in that area as it can rot off. But is there anything I can do to help rehab it? Roots are fine flower spike still blooming but no leaves 😬
@PetraEmmy3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dani! Ive got a question about phals... can i put 2 into the same pot? I have some phals that need bigger pots but I only have 1 6" pot.. is it ok to put 2 from a 4" pot into that 6"? I really appreciate ALL the information you share with us.

I consider flowering more dormant than when they're not flowering Lol
@janegao57473 жыл бұрын
Danny, what if one of my phalaenopsis keep blooming from the same stem(no branches) for over a year? I never promote it. The stem just keeps growing longer and just keep flowering. It also developed another two flower shoots. It also does not lose leaves, it still has a lot of leaves (8 leaves) as well. Should I cut the flower stems at some point even if it's still flowering? It looks healthy but I am concerned about it's health.
@MissOrchidGirl3 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes they can do that. It's up to you, I preffer to cut each spike once a year towards the summer and allow for full vegetative growth ☺️
@tijenaslan60323 жыл бұрын
hey danny! i have a vanda without any roots where most of the leaves died off on the stem. it only has some green leaves on the top, how can i promote new roots and where do they grow? in another video u mentioned that vandas cant grow roots on the top part of the orchid.
@MissOrchidGirl3 жыл бұрын
Hi, there is a limit to where Vandas can grow roots, near the crown they won't sprout roors. Search for 'missorchidgirl how to promote roots for beginners' and you'll find my latest video from one month ago on my methods ☺️

Hey Danny, something kinda connected to the 3th myth about the pot size. I hear a lot of people saying "if the pot is too big the orchid is not going bloom befoure it fills the pot with roots". Truth ot myth?
@fallingspark22583 жыл бұрын
I feel that she kinda answered that. Since the Orchid can't sense the confines of the pot, how can it tell when the pot is full of roots?
@itzharporath80173 жыл бұрын
Egoz2221 The reason why you should not use a larger pot is to avoid root damage. A larger pot keeps more water than a smaller pot and increases the danger of root damage.

Dar 2au murit in primele luni.

There's an Orientable woman online who toasts rice, cruschs them, and feeds them to the orchids. She says it's gives nutrients to the orchids and helps them have lots of flowers. What do you think? Is that a myth?
@MissOrchidGirl3 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes it is ☺️ rice can add nutrients to a compost pile, where it can fully break down, not in an aerated orchid pot. Also rice alone is not enough to provide all nutrients plants need.
