Hi Danny, I did 2 close terrariums 3 and 1 month ago. One with only jewel orchids (the 3 month old one) and it's doing great (I open it every couple of weeks just for a couple of minutes to check it and so far so good although 1 orchid is getting a little bit of brown spots and i think it's due to its direct contact with the condensed water on the glass). The other one I did it with also jewel orchids and a Erycina pusilla and well that one died in 2 days :(... Although the jewel but the jewel orchids are still ok. I would like to see a month update for your terrarium and how often you ventilate it, I think the first month is the trickiest one.... I wish you the best with your project, I love it and that moss looks amazing! Keep us updated please

I'll definitely try this method on jewel orchids😍 thanks for the tips. By the way, if I where you, I would remove the top part of the bio orb and put a cap on to conserve more water and put limit ventilation so that water could circulate around the orb. Just like a huge fish bowl 😂 that's my opinion atleast, just saying hahaha, but definitely a great idea, will try it in the future

I have three Restrepias is an old aquarium, sealed with clingfilm. I haven't tried to landscape it, just putting aquarium gravel on the bottom that I cover with water. The plants are in pots on saucers - to isolate them from the wet gravel - and have done very well for me. They've all flowered, one has produced a keiki and the other two have produced new growths. Although they are classed as cool growing I'm sure the internal temperature can be higher than is usually recommended but they're thriving. The tank is on a windowsill and the maximum room temperature is around 24C. It would seem that a high humidity is much more important than temperature.

@stacymahon46542 жыл бұрын
how do the plants get the airflow they need not to rot exactly?
@MissOrchidGirl2 жыл бұрын
Well exactly and precisely, airflow is not a requirment for preventing rot. It's the pathogen buildup more exactly that causes potential rot, but if you precisely get lucky with tolerant and strong plants, you don't exactly need air flow to deal with drying out that water and kill the pathogens, you can create a sort of ballance of microbes in high moisture environments. What can I say it's not an exact science 🤣

@Night_Sky_13 жыл бұрын
Helloo. I have a question which is not related to the video, but I've just bought an orchid a few days ago and I repotted it and cut all the parts of the roots that were rotten / dry, leaving only the healthy tissue. Even though I did that, I've noticed that the healthy roots have that white rot "fluffy" look and they also got some white dots all over their surface, but they still have substance, the tissue is not soft, it just has that white rot on it and the medium was also a bit rotten. I'm planning to repot it again into a new medium, but what should I do with the roots? As I said, they still have substance. Thank you!!
@squrrelitololito13653 жыл бұрын
Spray with a diluted hydrogen peroxide, then replant. If you will also soak them once dried out a little, prior to reporting, in eggshell water it will help ward of shock. It is not uncommon to lose several roots in a transplant .
