I have a question. I have a Phalaenopsis that needs to be repotted, but the flower spike has 2 keikis that are about 3 - 4 weeks old. Can i still repot or should I wait til they are big enough to take off

Thanks for posting and sharing. Very helpful to see this one as I have struggled with mealy bugs in the house plants (not just orchids).

Omg. Your timing is unreal. I was JUST watching your old videos on mealybugs last night!! I found some on a houseplant near my orchids and panicked. This is perfect, you read my mind!!

Such wonderful information and love ! I struggle w these buggers from time to time. Washing hands and surfaces with soap and water often during process, making sure clothing, hair do not come in contact too- the very small newborn bugs are not super visible and all crawl fast like you said ! May everyone have success keeping their pests at bay ✨

Thank you for this great video! I have some kind of bug the loves the root system for nesting but doesn’t seem the bother the plant to much. I had the plant for a year and it is growing it’s second stem this year. I have soaked it a few times to fertilize it and never saw signs of a problem. I recently got new plants and started to see teeny-tiny ant-like things (black head and thorax, clear or white abdomen tiny as a mite!) running along the shelf. I thought they were from the new plants, but I found they were coming in and out of this established plant! When I took it out it was like a huge infestation of them in the roots! I don’t know what they are but I have treated them like mealy bug and used alcohol to kill them, cleaned and repotted them ALL to make sure nothing else is effected. I think they have been hiding inside and it just happened to be time for swarming.

I found some mealy bugs on my water chain plant recently. It's not too bad yet, I can easily use some tweezers and q-tips and rubbing alchohol. Luckily they haven't spread yet to the other plants on the windows sill with them. It's a great time to repot too! Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow!

I wish I reviewed this before I gave up. The bugs spread to two other plants.

You can use NEEMAZAL (low toxic and low systemic) or Rogor(dimethoate) (strong toxic and strong systemic).

I just found some of the maly bigs on one of my flowering orchids. It has one flower left nit I see some on the nodes now too. I do have neem oil! how can I use it? do I mix it with something nad spray the plant or what? I don't have nay alcohol. I have 3 other orchids and they were all next to each other so I moved the one with noticeable bugs away from them but I will keep a close eye on them. So How do I use the neem oil?

Hi Danny. Thank you for all your videos. Have learned so much from you! Do you mind to go through how you manage your 'climbing' cattleyas? I have a few catts that with each new growth it gets higher and grows out of the pot. Its such a headache to keep the roots inside medium. Some tips on how to manage those would be great. ☺️

I just had to do a repot because of what looked like little black fly's
@lljones15932 жыл бұрын
Probably fungus gnats from too much water. They will keep coming back unless u reduce water significantly as they lay eggs in bark. Good luck!

Thank you for this video! I just found mealy's on my newer Phaelonopsis orchids, but it seems they've already burrowed into the crown... if I Neam oil, should I be drying it off after some time to avoid rotting the crown?

Not necessary if you have good air circulation.

Drowning bugs in general works poorly, since a lot of them, in addition to making bubbles around them, can also recover from being "dead in the water" for a few hours. I use alcohol for things that can tolerate it. Oil-based and mechanical removal for things that can't... Also, *beautiful* ceratostylis!

Regular distilled or RO water works just fine, the residue is just sugar.

Do not underestimate the horrid mealy bug!! This bug has made gardening no longer enjoyable. They are masters at hiding and they can lay 600 eggs that cannot be seen with the naked eye. I have spent many many hours and dozens of methods and chemicals to eradicate them. I feel like I will have these bugs forever. They have also moved to my outdoor plants here in northeast Ohio. Very discouraging 😢
