I hate mealy bugs!!! You have such a kind and gentle heart. I love that about you. You are a gentle soul. I have heard that the Bayer spray in the blue sprayer works well.

I can't help but feel bad for them, it's not their fault! lol. I may order some lady bugs, they are good at eating the babies...but i, worried the lady bugs will crawl into my heaters, and burn the house down... I think too much! haha. I've tried the bayer spray, it works well, but it's too potent to use in this enclosed space with the all the koi and goldfish. :(

I would totally have been doing this AWAY from all of the other plants. I cringed each time I saw a healthy plant right next to a mealy bug.

Great video! I was listening to another video. I was told Organic Neem Oil (100 percent pure, cold pressed) works great on mealy bugs. I just purchased an orchid yesterday, and she has massive ant problem. No mealy bugs I can see on the leaves. When I soaked her in water, I got rid of the ants, and saw a few mealys, I think! I quarantined her outside until I can repot her. Thanks!

I have 2 Orchids, one we got as a present and she had very beautiful leaves my mother inlaw brought more plants and I started to note super tiny white spots on the roots on the orchids and now I see little white/silver tiny bugs, but they dont really look like mealybugs! No idea what to do, and I decided to leave the new orchid I got for few seconds far from the other one, nope they got to it, gee...

Hello! Identifying the insect is the best first step to take. Some insects are beneficial, and Springtails(beneficial) are often described as tiny and silver, so here are a few questions... 1. Do you notice them in the potting media, as well as the roots? 2. Can you see them moving around? 3. Is there any noticeable damage being caused by them? 4. Can you count them, or are there far too many to keep track of? Rubbing alcohol works well for most all insects, as well as neem oil. But if these are Springtails, I would leave them be, they just eat decaying matter and don't harm the plants. :)

I have same problem....I wash the whole plant with soap water...giving the plant a whole bath...spray with soapy water, and hang it upside down...for a couple days under a bright light...keep it moist by spraying water on the plant ...hydrate the plant....repot with whole new media...sterilize the pot then repot...works for another months or so....thnx for sharing...

seems like a common issue with the mealys! The eggs must be very hard to remove and/or kill... very frustrating!

I use a paint brush so you can get into those tiny crevices with the solution

I have seen them on orchids and violets. Alcohol seems to be all I need but I get them right away. On the Phal, cut the keiki - the orchid is struggling.

Plant Maven definelty is the fastest most hands-on approach! I just like to keep a close eye for several weeks after to make sure I get any babies they may hatch. So far I've only seen 1 tiny baby on it since I cleaned it and removed all the big mealys... they are very annoying little critters! Lol.

Have you tried releasing lacewings! Don’t know if you have to live in certain regions to legally do this but worth a shot!

If you bag the root portion can you turn it upside down in the fish pool and let the fish remove mealy bugs?
@lorellstoneman746 жыл бұрын
Or maybe stip all dirt off roots....no place to hide.... and toss in fish tank for an hour.
@lorellstoneman746 жыл бұрын
Strip all dirt off. Sorry.

lol, all good suggestions, but I have to try and keep from teaching the fish to associate the plants with food since i soak my orchids in there.... they already occasionally nip on the plants as it is. : (

Hi I am new to meelybugs! Getting ready to treat my 6 orchids... I bought some type of spray with neem and pesticides for ornamentals... why should I not use this?
@TropicalPlantParty5 жыл бұрын
the neem alone is probably fine. Orchids are just tender with chemicals in a lot of pesticides, often times they will burn the roots.
@sherigranberry55115 жыл бұрын
@@TropicalPlantParty ok thanks... so just straight neem oil sprayed on the plants and roots? alcohol to remove the meely bugs? repot? spray roots with hydrogen peroxide ? neem? alcohol on roots? rinse at all after all this spraying? thanks for your help

Can soap and water kill mealy Bugs

Absolutely! The soap should smother and suffocate them.
