VIDEO: A grizzly bear ambles past cyclists in Glacier National Park

A group of cyclists from Whitefish, Montana were riding on the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park when they had a close encounter with a large grizzly bear. The group can be heard yelling "no bear" and some people can be seen holding out bear spray in preparation for a possible encounter. Luckily, the bear didn't seem too interested in the group. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks recommends people recreate with bear spray - especially in the spring and summer months - in the event they encounter wildlife. He’s a young male, only his second year away from mama, and his concern is avoiding the big boars looking for love. The Winter of ‘21-‘22 was mild, with scant snowfall, except hard cold at the wrong time which killed buds on berry bushes and fruit trees. Grizzlies stayed low until mid-July and were scavenging the transfer stations hard. Black bears, avoid grizzlies, were in towns and villages all summer long. Eight black bears were roaming Ronan MT (pop. 5,000) in town during the day for weeks and the Ravalli MT transfer station was closed for 6 weeks because 6 grizzlies were picnicking there, all at the same time. It’s a cute video with wealthy out-of-state Whitefish people on their bikes but life in bear country requires a certain level of commitment to preserving those magnificent animals.

I'm talking about grizzlies. They're different than black bears. With a Grizz, stand your ground (unless they are literally attacking you, then play dead) and look big, but DO NOT YELL.
