This is the best tutorial. I make "Little Dresses for Africa" so it works out very cheap and quick. Can get enough binding for the straps for 2 dresses and pockets out of half a yard. By the way, I have just made my 477th. dress

I watched this video today and I am amazed at the continuous bias binding tutorial. I use tons of bias binding at Christmas to bind tree skirts and to make binding the old way is so tedious. Thanks once again for your fabulous video. You have saved me loads of time with this and there's nothing more precious to quilters than time. I love your videos. Thank you again.

What a wonderful way to make bias tape! The main advantage of this method, of course, is that you need not join individual pieces. I just made 30 feet of tape, which would have required 20 separate seams. These are time-consuming and very difficult to get just right. Just a few tips: 1) make sure the right sides of the fabric are together when you sew the seam--don't laugh! 2) when you match the lines, make sure they meet where the seam will be (1/4" from the edge), not on the edge itself. This is what creates the "crosses" mentioned which you cannot see in the video. If the lines meet on the edge, the cutting line will not be continuous, and 3) I like to press the seam open before cutting--it makes it much easier and prettier. Have fun!

I LOVE this!!! I'll wager it knocks a good 20-25 minutes off the binding cutting and stitching process! I am going to use this procedure for the binding on my next quilt!! Jenny, your tutorials have taken me from a complete novice in October 2011, to a confident intermediate, with 6 quilts, 2 seasonal table runners, and 4 hot pads under my belt already...and even after breaking my right clavicle in a car wreck in December!!!

Thanks - fab instructions. I used to do this with a square fabric. I needed to be more efficient, timewise, and so I adapted your instructions. After pressing the triangle, and removing it, I marked the top right part of fabric for 1.5", then brought up the bottom, pinned, sewed & pressed. Marking all the sewing lines would be too long, so I did the above, and sat at my serger, marked the cover 1.5" and used it to cut the fabric. 9.5 m of cut & pressed bias tape in less than 20 min. Awesome.

This is the best method to make your own binding. And this is better than some I've seen on youtube as you only need to sew one seam. I wish she had specified the width of the strips she marked since I don't have the folding tool she used. It's nice to know you can make 200" from 1/2 yard of fabric, but not if you don't know the width of the strips. You can find online a Continuous Bias Binding Chart which answers this question.

I love this tutorial. I never was able to understand how to make binding and this was my aha moment. Coupled with the ultimate binding tutorial, I now prefer to bind everything. I just completed making a continuous strip from 1 yard of 54" wide shirt weight denim. I prefer a 4" binding to the 2.5" and I have no idea how many yards I have here, but rolled up it looks like a jelly roll size. I use this on denim blankets I make for Operation Quiet Comfort and they send them to our wounded troops overseas. Also, I take the triangle that gets cut off and add it back onto the other end of the strip to max my yardage. yes, I do get a few seams going the other way, but it doesn't matter to me. Done is better than perfect!

I am making custom baby bibs and covers for seniors, and you should see my stash of bias tape. You can't buy much in the line of patterned bias tape, so this gives a really sharp alternative, and makes the finished product look so finished. Glad I could help someone too! I forgot to say that I also use a bias tape folder - a little metal unit that cost $7.99 - and it works a treat.

YIPPEE!! I just finished making my 1st bias binding, THANKS TO YOU, Jenny! With the right tools, your tutorials and following the directions. I had to laugh at myself with trial-n-error as I ripped the seam and re-did this 3 times; seems I made the same mistakes as others of not lining up my X's at the 1/4-inch seam line then forgot to off-set by one width, but the end result was PERFECT ~ I'll use this again and again! Thank you!

Great tutorial. I had to watch it 4-5 times and then stop it at each interval to do it right. One thing I noticed is that she is using fabric that doesn't have a right and wrong side, or so it seems. Be sure to mark the lines on the right side of the fabric so you know where to cut when you turn the tube inside out. Thanks again for a great tutorial!!

Cindy Shivers , This can be done either way: I mark my lines on the wrong side of the fabric where I can see the lines more easily. Then after sewing the seam, I cut on those lines on the wrong side without turning the tube. ☑️👵🏻👍🏻❗️

so i used this method on fabric that was way longer! some tips: i didnt have the ruler she had so i had to measure (to get strips that are 2 inches wide, you need to measure your marks every 2+7/8 inches apart from each other :). also don't forget to offset that matching of either edge of the fabric by putting it one mark over. i made the mistake of matching the first mark on one edge to the first mark on the other edge and it came out wrong! luckily i checked before i cut so i just undid my sewing, but if i had cut they would've just been strips the width of the fabric.
