Jenny, I just love watching all the tutorials you do for us quilters. I have a quilt kit that I purchased on sale many years ago and the last time I took it out I realized the pattern that came with it was way more difficult than I wanted to do. Now I can use that fabric with the quilt you have just shown me in this tutorial and I will be so pleased that I will be able to use that fabric and end up with a quilt I will love. Thanks so much

Thank you for showing us how to square up the block using a ruler that’s bigger than the size you need. That is one of the biggest frustrations in quilting I have found along with getting your fabric pieces to your sewing machine in a way that you remember which side to sew on.

This quilt is so beautiful - I could not resist - I caved and bought a few of the materials from your store. I have to say - I just started your version of the Jacob's Ladder for my Mother-In-Law. It is the second quilt I have ever made - challenging but beautiful. I followed your pattern with the exception of the side sash. Canada Day is on July the 1st - so I used a white sash and placed tiny Canadian Flags on the sides. Then I called the nieces and nephews in to town for Sunday and we will be doing an old fashioned quilting bee. It isn't nearly as beautiful as yours but it is from the heart and all the quilting will be hand done - so in its own way it really is very pretty. Thank you for a wonderful tutorial and much needed inspiration. Your Canadian Friend!

I just made all of the four patch blocks using the double slice way and it worked great. Now I am starting the hour glass blocks. There are 21 so I cut one block out of my backing fabric, it is from one of the prints falling petals, to get 22. You can't make it with out it. I have 6 or 7 inches of snow so it is a perfect stay home and Sew Day!

I made this using the same fabric but instead of the black border I got the white since the black was sold out.The white actually worked out better for me. I wasn't completely sure just how much fabric I would need to make a queen size quilt so I ordered 1 Layer cake, 1 Twice the Charm charm pack (I Love those!) & 2- 3 yards of yardage for the borders. I wanted to have enough extra in case of mistakes, to replace any pieces I may not like or want to use & maybe to make a few accessories. I had plenty left after making the quilt top to complete 2 shams, 1 small lamp shade cover,1 small trash can cover, a light switch plate & a small dresser or bedside table scarf : ) It all turned out so beautifully! Thank You so much.:)

I think I've figured out how to make it with only one layer cake and still get 21 of each type block. You can do several of the hour glass blocks using the pairing up method that she shows, but when you get down to about 5 blocks, then you have to switch to the other method she mentions. You cut each of the 5 remaining layer cake pieces into quarter square triangles, rearrange them to be scrappy, then sew them together.

To save some more time, can you do the 4-patch like a double slice instead of cutting the layer cake piece into 4 5" squares to sew together? I just watched the double slice video before this one. It seems to pretty much be the way you're doing the hourglass anyway. Thanks for your videos!! I'm learning so much that I missed out on having to stop quilting classes when granddaughter arrived and daughter needed almosy 12 weeks of daily help. God bless you all for your time and effort in helping us learn!
