Lauryn chose to leave the industry because she said it was full of corrupt and evil people. She did not want to play by its rules anymore. I think most intelligent people know she has been proven right. They dont want a real conscious artist like her so she is not as successful because she wants no parts of that machine. If you are a real fan then you know she made this very clear on her unplugged acoustic album.

Agreed. She went to Brown University, the lady is smarter than most and can do whatever she wants. This article is going off an exes story and the industry stuff is well known. Edit: correction: she had been accepted to Columbia University. She did not attend Brown. Having said that, the message remains the same: she is very, very intelligent. You don't get accepted into a prestigious Ivy League school without being very smart... or generationally wealthy. She has chosen to focus on bigger things than a music career: family, and civil rights/humanitarian work.

I’ve seen bible and bible thumpers destroy so many people’s lives. At least in Hinduism they TELL you the ancient texts are meant to be understood as allegory to represent your own mind and your relationship to it and self. It’s about inner growth, not an outer war. To Christian’s it’s all about fear. They get duped and don’t realize it’s a test to see if you can learn to live self and others. Not live in fear and pressure. Sad to see a so much potential music and a great woman stymied, but I’m not surprised.

Lauryns problem is like a lot of women. We let a man dick-tate our lives. You ain’t mention Rohan was already married. She knew this and kept having children with him anyway. Lauryn was bigger than the group so it’s not the group why her career is what it is. Her business practices are the reason why she isn’t a more accomplished musician. I believe that Miseducation was such a runaway hit and the business side with her collaborators was terrible. From being sued she likely felt humiliated in the most public way and couldn’t live it down. That album was promoted as her being heavily involved and written by her to then be sued publicly was an ego hit. Even her requesting the next set of musicians to sign away their rights to the sophomore album that never happened showed that she was on track to do a similar thing with better business practices (not write or produce but claim it). Then just having a lot of kids back to back and likely having mental illness unaddressed are the real reasons why she is in the career position she’s in now.

Lauryn's MOTHER is to blame for letting a strange man take her daughter.
@iaminevitable_
@iaminevitable_ Жыл бұрын
While I agree that the mom shouldn’t just immediately trust someone with their child, the blame ultimately falls on the person doing the misconduct. It’s like blaming the parents if the teacher does something inappropriate with your kid (their student)… they are with them 8hours a day and for the most part, they aren’t going to conduct themselves in a way that would get them fired/arrested because the accountability falls on that teacher and that teacher is quite aware of their responsibility. One thing that confuses me to no end is why can’t adults be around kids/minors and not harm them? Especially men… it’s like maybe men should know how to conduct themselves around kids/minors..
@nancymarunya7121

@@iaminevitable_ but this is not a teacher and a student situation. The mom should not have BASICALLY given her underage daughter away to a strange man, that's not even family. Even as an adult Lauryn is always looking for saviours in these men. Clearly she has some type of abandonment issues and the fact that she hardly ever mentions her mother/family is VERY TELLING! The mother is 100% to blame. EVERYTHING has root cause, and Hill's mother is the root of all of this. Why does she not support and protect her daughter even now? Make it make sense.

"Ruin" ... that woman fronted one of the best album's of all-time. It transcends genres and is considered a timeless classic. What happened to her personal relationships and working relationships is a) her business, and b) happens to tons of young artists. Ms. Hill is an extremely intelligent, multi-talented human being who does what she chooses. If she wanted to record more, for the world to hear, it would happen. Especially in today's environment. Musicians record and publish their own work ALL the time. This video is informative to those that don't know anything about her story- but, it is definitely sensationalized and not dropping anything not already well-known to those who have paid attention.

Lauryn Hill shot her own career "In the head" by saying something no successful artist should ever say to her fans. And it's no secret. In fact it's very well documented in the news industry. It's something she said back in 1996 that came back to haunt her two years later at the end of 1998 after the success of her first single album. "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill". Loved the album myself. Been a fan of Ms. Hill when she even worked for Disney. The one thing she said that killer her career was and I quote “I rather my children starve than have white people buy her albums.” When I heard that in the news, radio, and online... I was like O-M-G!!! She said what?... And it all turned out to be true. But there's just one thing Ms. Hill didn't realize at the time. And that is whites made up of 70%-75% of the people buying hip-hop and R&B music. A fact she found out the HARD WAY real quick. Because those people in the 70%-75% group stop buying her music and all merchandise all together. So in actuality she got her wish. "Be careful what you wish for." Even the PR dept at Ruffhouse Records were desperately trying to do damage control. But once the news media found proof she actually DID say that, it was "GAME OVER". It was sooooo bad, that even people Napster stopped downloading her music illegally. Now you it's real bad when people won't even download your music for free. So Ms Hill is the only person to blame here. No one else. I don't care she or anyone else says. Because those of us who were there at the time know this to be true. Too bad. She had a great voice.

@@vanhattfield8292 You must be American. A child should be given the opportunity to have a somewhat normal childhood where he or she is being raised and trained by suitable parents or guardians. To put children in adult situations too early creates a breeding ground for dysfunction and parent child role reversal. Parents should provide for and raise their children. Not vice versa. Also there is nothing wrong with entertainment being restricted to adults. Children can act in school plays or church plays. They do not need to take on entertainment as a profession at an age where they do not know up from down.

She is so gifted. I agree that Miseducation is one of the greatest albums of all time, period. It’s clear if you do a little research that Lauren could have created and accomplished a lot more, but did not because of music industry toxicity, dirty selfish people that took advantage of her, and ultimately mental health. It’s sad, but I love everything she has shared with us and hope better days lie ahead for her.

She and Wyclef started hooking up when she was 15. It sounds bad, but he is only 5 years older, which certainly not good but when I think many people, myself included, envision wyclef as he looks like now and not the 20 year old that he was when they connected and that makes it seem a lot worse...

We love Lauryn, she gave us some of the best songs, movie and inspiration above all. No, she fell in love, she had control issues with her former bandmates, she made changes in her life that did impair her ability to sustain a viable career in the music and entertainment industry. Being late and under performing, yes that is an issue. All I know is that we do not really know the full story. She tried to break free and she ended up broke and broken. She has that soul and soul in her voice, she will continue singing and I pray she finds an outlet that allows her to perform and remain comfortable in her principles. Because, if she met God, that is the most important. We can continue listening to her existing music and go to smaller venues concerts and appreciate her. One thing, "The miseducation of Lauryn Hill" remains one of the best album ever. No matter what the "experts" said.

From the way the story was told while it was happening, Lauryn didn't want Clef to work on her album. Clef was running round telling people he was about to work on her album. At the time he was the production genius of the group, and it was just always assumed that he would produce Lauryn. I remember he did the "Sweetest Thing" for Love Jones with her. She grew to resent Clef for not leaving his wife, and so she cut him off. The need to prove to people that she could do this on her own is prob why she didn't give proper credit on the Miseducation album. Lauryn really had Clef believing he was about to be a dad. I remember he did performance and an interview at one of the late shows to promote his solo album and he was so happy and said he was about to go to the hospital to visit Lauryn. That was the first time I felt strongly that they had some type of relationship, because he really was happy like it was his child. In his book he said that Lauryn led him to believe that she was carrying his child. Although he was married and Lauryn was seeing Rohan, they were still getting together. The way he explains it is that he loved 2 women, but his love for Lauryn ended when he felt he lied to him about being the dad only to pull the rug out from under him at the hospital. They were still sleeping together when he started a relationship with Rohan.

I’m not gonna take sides, I love her music but the thing is that Lauryn is a great singer even a greater rapper, though she isn’t a producer nor could she write a song. That’s probably why she never released another album after the miseducation cause she gave the songwriters and producers no credit. Y’all mad at other people when they behave like this, keep the same energy. Update : I’ve done some research and I saw that she wrote some songs, although that doesn’t exclude the fact that she didn’t give the producers and songwriters of “the miseducation” any credit until after the court hearing. But still, keep the same energy y’all give when other people exploit the work and talent of songwriters and producers.

I feel like the Tyra Banks meme when it comes to Lauryn Hill. HOW DARE YOU! We were ALL rooting for you! It was kind of sad being a genuine fan and watching the stall and eventually demise of her career. The L Boogie we have now is just a shell of her former self. The Miseducation album is a classic! So are a few of the Fugees records. Yeah the industry is evil, and there may have been a few are negative factors behind the scenes that may have held her back temporarily. But she had established a fan base for herself that would have rode for her (no matter what) if she really wanted to continue to put out music. She just kept stringing us along for years of delays pretending that she would release something soon. Canceling shows at last minute or being hours late. The noticeable loss of much of her tone and the power in that unique voice live. Lack luster performances where it appeared that she didn’t even want to be there. Her public Tax/Legal troubles. She offered something that the music industry really needed that I don’t think we are ever getting back. She is way too far gone at this point. Oh well, atleast I’ll still got those 90s hit I can continue to rock.
