People really don't give credit where credit's due. Yeah the video got praise but this particular song is the reason why the late 90s/early 2000s sounded the way it did. Nobody other than Missy's squad were laying down multi-patterned beats that had layers & layers of instruments and beatboxing, and each time other envious producers tried to mime their intricate sound they would always fail miserably. I still to this day don't understand with so many eye-popping visuals, freaky beats and her not fitting the "expected norm" of a female image, she still goes underrated. (DEEP SIGH) I guess she will always be a national treasure to those that genuinely understood where she was coming from with these groundbreaking ideas, and that is fine (I guess). But until then... *sings* I can't stand Missy being underrated *sings*

I remember when I saw this video for the first time. I didn't know what to think. I had never seen this whimsy in hip hop before. Missy is an icon. People overuse this word but for her it is 100% earned.

that's the perfect word: whimsy. Whimsy was not new in hip hop by this time. First thing that comes to mind is The UMC's "Blue Cheese". Rap has always had a whimsical quality to it. "Apache" is whimsical. Maybe it's the way that Missy is so fuckin relaxed in this song. It's a super dreamlike whimsy. Maybe that was totally new at that time.

why , what is the criteria to get in RRHF? Music is a form of art, therefore, very subjective, which dumbfounds me why there is a RRHF at all. Of course the sales of the record speak volumes in itself, but, back to the original question, what is the criteria???

True dat, Missy was and still is my favorite Female Rapper. Music during this time, being the 90's is way better than the CRAP we hear today.
