Long Time No See！ It's so great to have you back!!! For clarification, 1st of October is still valid because it's the fixed first day of National Holiday of China. While this year you experienced in mid September is simply because it's the Mid-autumn festival in China for 3 days basically. Telling the truth, it makes me a bit surprised that your Chinese colleagues didn't tell you about it😂 Yes, the mid-autumn Festival is based on lunar calendar. Maybe you can baidu it or just a Chinese friend of yours to avoid having such confusions next time scheduling your travel plan😊
