I live in Toronto and I just returned from China, visited 5 cities in 15 days (Beijing, Shanghai, Sanya, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen) and spent 5 days just in Shanghai. I can say that I agree with 100% of what Ken said. It's one of the most organized and developed countries in the world (at least the 5 cities that I visited), and the people are extremely happy, welcoming and nice. You'll be surprised how advanced they are compared to many developed countries. I highly really recommend everyone to visit China - it's an eye opening experience. After I came back, I was explaining how good China is to one of my colleagues and he joked that I'm paid by the Chinese government to say so, lol. Don't get offended Ken, you did a great job. sadly, those comments show how many brainwashed people we have in the world, those who think that are openminded but their not! They can't even trust their eyes!

I have lived in Sydney for more than 50 years, So I consider myself as Australian more than Hongkonger. We traveled a bit but China was not on our list, because I spent my first 21 years in Hongkong and was educated under the Colonial British government. I viewed China negatively. I retired in early 2000, followed these group of Hongkong friends to have tours in China. We had the itinerary mapped out ourselves so were’t “invited” guests by Chinese Government. Only then I realised how little did I know about China. I have seen the improvements over the 20 years. The main cities were as good as you described. We also visited schools in remote country side. We have seen some families would not send their daughters to high school because of a few dollars for school fees. We raised money back in Sydney. We carried supplies to remote schools. We made last October tours as our last one to go to remote schools as we are getting old. We will continue to visit China as “tourists”. I want to say to people don’t believe what the Western Media want you to know, go and see it yourself.

Like I am also getting paid by the government. So funny. You are definitely right about China. I've been in a lot of cities in China, and they're almost the same everywhere. Ironically everything those types of people say is a confession. The USA has in the past few years dedicated hundreds of millions to fueling anti China propaganda (while seeming to have no money to address massive homeless crises or ridiculous education and healthcare costs), but some CIA shills want to screech about “muh sissypee paying people.”

This is what always frustrated me as a westerner visiting China, is that if you share your positive experience of china online and you're called a "CCP BOT" or "The CCP is paying you!" or they call you a shill.. It's really odd because if you say positive things about the USA, Europe, or any other country it's perfectly fine. For example, if I visited New York and said I had a good time no one would say "He's a CIA Bot! The American government is paying him to say this!" it shows how, quite literally, westerners ARE being brainwashed by media to distrust ANYTHING positive about china.

Every little piece of citizen misbehaviour that is tabloid news equivalent in the West is highlighted and magnified to the world as international news. You praised China in this video, which is not in line with Western "political correctness". Once people realize that your description of China doesn't match what they think China should look like, they have two choices, either they think you're wrong or they admit they themselves are wrong. And for any adults, admitting they're wrong is a hard thing to do, so they'll probably admit in their personal minds that they might be wrong, but still continue to criticize you in the comments saying that you are wrong.

I recently went to Xiamen, Fuzhou, Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou. What struck me was how green the cities were. There were mature street trees everywhere providing a bit of shade from the sun. Another thing was the lack of engine noise and gas fumes, due to the ebikes and electric cars, busses and trucks. Finally the sense of safety. No loud, shirtless, intoxicated, aggressive lout screaming for attention. No hoons revving and challenging others to race, actually I did hear loud revving once in Shanghai but that was the only time. The streets were very well lit at night, I'd take evening walks around the street blocks and check out the night markets and mobile food stalls, with no fear or thought of putting my cellphone away like I would've in other parts of the world. But a word of caution...while theft is almost non-existent, there are lady scammers working along Nanjing Rd in Shanghai targetting single male tourists. I suggest you visit Hangzhou or Qingdao next Ken.

Although the people cannot speak English well, they will extend their help to the best of their ability. Regarding safety, I never witnessed or experienced any crime committed. I can even jog or walk alone around late in the evening until dawn without any worries. I even had an experience where I forgot my phone in a crowded restaurant, when I came back there 20 minutes later, my phone was still there. Nobody took it. If given the chance, I will certainly go back to Shanghai.

Speaking as a Singaporean who first went to China in 2000 and multiple times thereafter (helped by the fact we are given visa free travel), China has come a long way. The traffic, the manners of people, the public toilet hygiene, the environmental pollution all have improved vastly. Just to comment a few things: 1) I think western media have fed their viewers either half truths or false narratives so extensively that even with so many western foreigners going there and vlogging, their minds have become so fixated on only the negative that they refuse to entertain any other possibilities about China, falling back on allegations and accusations that these peoples must have been paid by the Govt. Haters will always be haters, no matter how much you say and explain to them about your actual experiences. Just ignore such toxic people and commenters, you can't force them to believe you anyway if they refuse to. I don't think the Chinese Govt really give a fuck to how foreigners see them. Because if that is what they are so overly concerned with, they would have scaled back on their territorial and economic disputes with many countries. They are more concerned about the support they'd get from their own citizens, hence the poverty alleviation programmes and universal healthcare implemented nationwide. I've been to Europe a few times too and I definitely see more crimes and homelessness each time I visit, and the situation seems to have worsened with the arrivals of refugees and undocumented foreigners that have no jobs or whose religion and customs are at odds with the native population. 2) Ken, if I've to recommend where you can optimise your visit on a 15-day visa, here are a few suggestions:- a) Beijing, Tianjin, Inner Mongolia (province) - capital of China, nature b) HK, then travel into province Guangdong (Shenzhen, Guangzhou - cities), nearby province Guangxi - most advance coastal provinces like driverless buses, and Guangxi for great landscapes c) province Sichuan (capital - Chengdu), Chongqing, Guizhou - panda, landscapes, hilly city d) province Yunnan (Kunming capital, Lijiang, Xishuangbanna etc) - diverse ethnicities and great landscapes, ( I feel can do Sichuan & Yunnan together but can be quite packed) e) From Lanzhou to Xinjiang, retracing part of the the ancient silk route of China - for Xi'an in Lanzhou (terracotta warriors for eg), Gansu (Mogao caves, Mingsha Sand Dunes etc) , Xinjiang (Urumqi, Kashgar, Turpan for eg) - diverse ethnicities of central asian and indo-european origins, breathtaking landscapes and long history for e), you can even do the entire 2 wks just in Xinjiang, largest province My past experiences in travelling to China. There will be lots of domestic tourists in popular tourist destinations esp during their Spring Festival from early to mid Feb, and their National Day Golden Week in Oct. Avoid these periods at all costs if you do not want to get stuck in a sea of moving bodies. Hope it helps you in your research and how you want to mix and match the above suggested options in your 2nd trip there.

I visited HK, Guangzhou and Shanghai back in October. I flew into HK, took the high speed rail into GZ and stayed there for 5 days. After, i took the HSR again and went to Shanghai for 7 days. After Shanghai, I took the HSR to HK. I had been planning this trip for about 3 years and at first, it was mainly to SH because I went there many years ago and last time I went, i did not have a good experience because I got sick. Since that time, whenever someone brought up Shanghai, I would be reminded of that negative experience. It was only recently that i watched other travel vloggers going to China and noticed that a lot had changed....for the better! Good food, safe environment and great infrastructure. In my SH trip, I also went to Zhujiajiao but I felt I didn't go as thorough as you did. I was born in HK and moved to Canada many years ago so I am very aware of the stereotypes that HKers have about the mainland. It's great that you went to see all this in person because it's really eye opening.

Most foreigners may only hear about Shanghai and Beijing, but I wouldn't recommend them as tourist destinations. Cities like Suzhou, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Nanjing and Xi 'an are more suitable for traveling and living. Your comments are really true for China. I'm a Chinese students studying in Poland. Firstly, China is very very safe, you don' need to worry about your safety although in midnight. And also, the common price of the goods the hotels is lower than western country,.In fact, shanghai is the most expensive city in mainland of China. For me, last year I went to a city for a trip, the total costs just about 1000yuan(150dollar without planes) for 3 days. Secondly, I would to recommend some beautiful city you can choose. Except Beijing and Shanghai, the south of china have Guangzhou, a modern large city in china, Kunming, a beautiful city with good view and many cheap fruits. The middle of China, you can go to Xi'an, a historical city with many ancient viewings. The north of China, Harbin is a good choice, it is so cold and you can see many different landscapes if you live in south. If you want to see the ocean, you can go to Qingdao, a city live in the mountain and sea. All of the city above have the subway, so the transportation is so convenient. If everyone have any question about China, you can contact with me. Finally, WELCOME TO CHINA!!!

I’m glad that you enjoyed your time in China and is planning on visiting again. If you’re planning to visit again early next year, it’s best to avoid the Chinese New year holiday from the end of January to mid February. During the Chinese New Year holiday there will be crowds everywhere in China and railway/flights will be running at full capacity since many people will be travelling. And a tip if you plan to visit Beijing, be aware that many tourist attractions will be closed on certain days of the week and may require appointment in advance so you might want to do some research and plan ahead. Apart from Beijing and Shenzhen, some South western cities in China are also worth visiting, Chengdu and Chongqing for example are famous for their hot foods and hotpots.

The reason why Western politicians and media spread rumors to smear China is that Western countries have always demonized the socialist system, but China's success in implementing the socialist system has made Western countries very embarrassed. Therefore, the Western media is afraid that too many Westerners will know about China's success. Can tell lies to deceive Westerners.

I greatly appreciate your unbiased perspective on everything here in China. I am a native of Sichuan Province, born and raised in Chengdu city, so Chengdu is my first recommendation. It is the home town of pandas🐼. You can see them at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, and taste the local Sichuan cuisine, which is arguably the most famous. The nearby scenery can also be breathtaking, like Jiuzhaigou and Mount Emei. Chongqing, a nearby megacity, is famous for its unique topography and cyberpunk ambiance at night. Spicy 🌶️ hotpot is also immensely popular throughout the country. My second recommendation is the Shenzhen-Guangzhou-Shunde area. Shenzhen is arguably the most modern city in China, similar to Shanghai. You can witness the spectacular light show at Lianhua Mountain. It's very convenient to reach Shenzhen if you land in Hong Kong, and from there, you can take a fast train to Guangzhou in just one hour. Guangzhou has a long history as a marine trade center of China. Both Guangzhou and Shunde offer a variety of delicious foods that you shouldn't miss. I hope you enjoy your next trip to China; I'm looking forward to seeing your next episode on your China adventure!

All of the hate and vicious attacks that Ken is getting are coming from the racist bigots that feared China is surpassing the US in every way! That’s why they use the propaganda talking points of their country to attack Ken and other people that speak the truth about China - because they know the truth that Ken shares about China is shattering their lies and propaganda! Did you know the US spends over $90 billion a year on spreading lies and propaganda against China, Russia, and Iran? The vast majority of that $90.3 billion is spent on spreading propaganda and lies against China! The US has gone as far as controlling the news stations of other countries to spread lies about China! So you could only imagine the length the US goes to to spread lies about China in its own news stations, newspapers, magazines, social media sites, movies, radio stations, bloggers, books, etc! African writers were paid $1000 a piece if they could write a good negative story about China! This is how vicious and looney the falling evil empire has become!

In China, we have a saying "夏虫不可语冰" which is a fascinating idiom and powerful metaphor. When translated into English, it means "not to talk about ice with a summer insect." Imagine a summer insect, which only exists for a few months during the summer, wouldn't understand what ice is if you tried to explain it to them. They have no concept of winter because their lifespan never includes that season. This metaphor signifies the limitations of one's knowledge and understanding due to a restricted perspective or a lack of exposure to certain experiences. It also implies a person's narrow-mindedness and ignorance of deeper truths. So let haters believe what they believe while u enjoy ur future trips exploring the world. I enjoyed your videos very much btw.😊

If u are interested in visiting a coastal city in china, I would highly recommend Qingdao( also spelled as Tsingtao). It’s a very beautiful and clean coastal city and famous for beers and seafood. By the way it was colonized by Germany during the First World War. So there are also many German buildings from that time in this city.

It will help to open the eyes, minds and hearts of those who always have that "hate feeling" towards the country. I would suggest you to visit Southern China like Xiamen, Guangdong or Fujian as Beijing will be very cold in January/February. Hainan Island is interesting too.

I'm from Beijing and currently live in London. Based on my personal experience, Beijing and Chongqing could be the best cities for foreigners to visit. Beijing may not be as organized as Shanghai, but it has more historical architecture. Chongqing has the best city view in China, even compared to Hong Kong, and the street food there is amazing, though it's more spicy.

hi, Ken, after watching several of your recent trip videos to Asia since last week, I decided to subscribe. The reason is very simple which is that you are quite objective about your visit and your true feelings. Not biased nor prejudiced or influenced by western media. I like the way very much you try to talk and interact with the local people wherever you visit, which is also different from many other visit videos in which most travelers are doing either monologue or are afraid of communicating with the locals due to language barrier. Please keep on doing this which will bring your video more insightful than others. By the way, I am a Chinese working and living in France and already travel to most of countries in the world, including all the places in your video. So I could easily judge and understand what you are talking about. As a Chinese living in the west most of the time in the past two decades (but I return to china to see family members every year and know the fast development of China very well), I fully understand how biased, negative and sometimes ridiculous the western media could be in particular when they report on China. Anyway the West must remember that deliberately demeaning China will never help the West to become better.

I've seen many foreign visiters coming to China and they always visit Shanghai or Beijing. I must say that these two cities are definitely phenomenal. Just wanna add some other destinations that I had been to in China to Ken and those who want to explore other parts of China: 1. Chongqing: a mountainous city famous for its complex terrain and architecture. It is the city with the most bridges in China and be aware, the food here is spicy! Make sure you try the hot pot here. 2. Chengdu: it's one of the chilliest cities in China. If you want to see the pandas and try some delicious spicy food, here is the place.(It's close to Chongqing, so you guys can visit them altogether) 3. Hangzhou: currently, it's the fifth major city in China. Hangzhou is famous for the beautiful West Lake and the silk culture. Many young people are choosing Hangzhou instead of Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou to start their career. So you can feel a vibrant atmosphere in the city. The city is an hour away by high speed railway from Shanghai, you can visit Shanghai and Hangzhou altogether. 4. Changsha: this is the city where party people never sleep. The Wuyi Square is one of the craziest commercial district I've ever seen in China. The local Xiang cuisine(湘菜) is pretty famous. And there is a milktea brand call Sexytea(茶颜悦色), many people come to Changsha only for a cup of Sexytea. I've also tried it, and I LOVE it. 5. Xiamen: it might not be a famous tourist spot for foreign visitors, but many Chinese couples would choose Xiamen as a honeymoon desination. It is a coast city located in Fujian province. The downtown of it is an island and other parts of the city are just across the bay. The culture and the food(not spicy) there are pretty similar to Taiwan. I highly recommend you to explore the main island on foot or by bike. China is a big country and there are so many great places to visit(Xi'an, Nanjing, Suzhou, Guilin, Guiyang, Zhangjiajie and Tianjin...). But I can only offer you some insights of mine toward the five cities that I have been to. You can google them to search for more travel details. And Ken, thank you for your videos, I really enjoyed them!
