A closely related soundchip ICS1614 GF-1 from Gravis Ultrasound there is an FPGA implementation of it. The software emulation implementation of Wavefront differs greatly between MAME and FBA. It would be nice to see comparison against real hardware to see how exact either of them has gotten it! The issue with MiSTer core feasibility is generally not the chips on the board. They have all been well understood for years in software emulation. The critical issue for a lot of the more powerful cores like this is total bus bandwidth. Faster CPUs contribute to this total, but also the number of graphics buses in use (eg layers) and then add sound and other co-processors. So it's not enough to say, "these CPU cores are done and other chips are understood like the Neo Geo".
@VideoGameEsoterica15 күн бұрын
No but in tandem and the bus bandwidth on PGM is still within spec. But you start talking bus width in video and you lose people haha
@ravagingwolverine15 күн бұрын
I would have voted for PGM over CPS-3. PGM's library is more robust. But, in the end, the community would eventually get to each one. Just a matter of time. I imagine if Saturn is possible, then PGM should also be within the capabilities. PGM is a fun platform. Clearly, it's patterned after the concept of the Neo Geo, but upgraded as well. I LOVE beat-em-ups, so you know I've played some PGM going back a decade. Gladiator is very good, and also has a unique feel. It's packed full of secrets, most of which I'll only be able to see on youtube. I did manage to follow along with one and get to the secret stage "Crazy Lady". It was not easy as it involved multiple steps and strange exploits of the enemy logic. I've seen in video at least one secret boss. It's impressive how many secrets and branching paths the game has, and it's a really fun beat-em-up. Demon Front is great too. It does take the Metal Slug play and visual style, though it's nice to see the smoother motion and crisper visuals. In gameplay, Demon Front is quite a bit different than Metal Slug, despite being similar in the base concept. I find Demon Front is slower and is more defensive than Metal Slug, which is interesting and it ends up working well. Martial Masters is well made. I only played it a bit, but I might go back to it. And I've played some of the Knights of Valor games, though I always have to look up which one is which. I need to go back to those as it's been a while.

My vote was for PGM. Not that I don’t love CPS 3 but the library is just so limited for the work that goes in
@MrJorgalan8 күн бұрын
Although the result of the vote, which was won by CPSIII, is respected, the reality is that I believe there is a lot of lack of awareness about the IGS PGM system. For the price of just one core, we can access great titles, including several high-quality shoot 'em ups by Cave, as well as fighting games and beat 'em ups. It's a shame; I think many people voted for Street Fighter III, but it's a very complex core, and the number of titles is very limited.Time has shown that this core has not progressed, and the IGS core would have been more feasible. I think it was a bad decision.

My comment committed sudoku as well! I'm sure VGE hasn't removed it, it's the machine that runs the thing here. I try to edit it down to one sentence, perhaps that works :D

Jotego hasnt mentioned it in a while. Not sure how things are progressing. He seems to be doing other stuff.

Jotego seems to bounce around. Which I get. Working on one thing for too long becomes tedious

this the Taito f3 and cv1000 and cv1000b would make a trifecta of emulation more accurate than software even if not by much of niche arcade systems with cult Shumps (danamku's in this case) and upgraded versions of classic arcade games. All that'd be left is systems for games like tetris the grandmaster and remakes like strike force than before you know it the last gasps of 2d before even arcades finally became fully 3d will be preserved just that extra little bit more than what software can do since there's still drivers and occasional sound issues for the pgm and cv1000 and it's b revision when it comes to Mame and final burn neo. the only company left making "pure" arcade games really are raw thrills, and no games like beatmania don't count. They have subscriptions gachapon systems and online requirements albeit they kind of count too as far as the arcade "experience" goes, wouldn't feel right to play those games without the speakers and specialized unique controllers and headphone jacks to tune out other people. That's only two companies man hell sai dai ou jo is the last arcade game ever made to require quarters making it the last "truly pure" arcade game and the fact that cave lasted until 2012 before becoming a mobile game company that I'm pretty sure is soon to be a fashion company if i remember right fucking baffles me. How does a company like cave and snk end up making 2d games for that long? was cave even thinking of consumers when sdoj or akai katana? I do hope one day the cv1000 could get the hardware emulation treatment like the pgm it'd be great to have since i doubt anyone will fix the issues with drivers anytime soon either that or arcade database lies to me when giving certain games yellow
