MiSTer PSX SNAC Adapter | Impressions, Testing and Review!

I was told in Discord that the smoothest way you can use a PSX SNAC without the memory card ports like these, is to use the virtual memory card in port 2. Most games support using port 2 memory card, but IIRC some do not. Fun video! Thanks as always for informing the masses, amigo. 👍 EDIT 2023-02-13: Test build just went up today that adds virtual memory card support while using SNAC/SNAX! Been testing it all day today and it seems to be working great! No more wonky workarounds.

I just bought a multitap, but I'll try your suggestion as well. Perhaps the dev (Robert Peip) could add a "Real or Virtual memcard on SNAC" toggle option in the PSX core menu, if that's even possible.

Great video! I've been content with USB controllers but I think you finally pushed me over the edge into digging into everything SNAC has to offer. Personal favorite snack is Calbee Shrimp Chips. Don't knock 'em until you've tried 'em.

How you haven't got more subs is beyond me, such a great channel, love the MiSTer content. SNAC is the one thing I've never tried, manly cos I usually play Amiga or Spectrum games.. also cos back in the day, I never had a PlayStation. A friend of mine had a PlayStation and I remember seeing Goldeneye on it. It looked amazing he also had a rumble gamepad thing and that blew me away as well. Anyway I'll enter the comp, if, i happen to win I'll have to search ebay for some controllers.. great channel.. favourite snac is monster munch.. any of the flavours..

I didn’t realise when I put the video together but you can also assign a memory card to the P2 spot if you only have one controller connected. That might be easier in most cases.

This is very cool! This year i spent lots of money to get lightguns in order to make JB guns. Some of the gun was that rare, i didnt want to "vandalize" but this way i can preserve them original condition. Prawn Pringles. Thanks for the video

I like how you made this simple enough that it is extremely easy for anyone to understand while simultaneously not really trying to dumb it down too much such that experiences users can still enjoy and get something out of this video. Two controller ports?! Man this is amazing! Looks easy to setup and connect. I currently use one of those retropad32 adapters and seems to work great but I’d like to pick one of these up if it allows two controllers, that is pretty neat they set it up like that. Never seen that G-Con variant before... For mere mortals, you can also find GunCon patches for all the Justifier only PS1 light gun games.

Ooh yes thank you! I actually just discovered this last week when I made the Batocera video with Sinden as the core they were using only supported GunCon. It was a minor hassle finding suitable rips, but seemed to work well with Die Hard Trilogy I tested.

Does the Guncon work with VGA CRT's or only with 15 khz CRT tv's?

I got my PSX snac adapter yesterday but I can not get it to work (snes and md snacs do work). WTH am I doing wrong? I think it’s got to do with mc setup. I don’t have a psx mc

I’m not sure. It might sound obvious but just make sure you’re plugging it directly into the MiSTer and not the normal SNAC dongle. Aside from that you might be better served by asking on the discord.
