Why did Nasim leave? She was brilliant. So many fantastic women on the show in the last decade. Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Nasim Pedrad, Aidy Bryant, Ego Nwodim, Melissa Villasenor, and quite a few more that I just can't recall at the moment. I also loved Sasheer Zamata, even though they never seemed to match her with writing that best suited her talents. And there are a couple of new feature players and cast members who show some promise. I know the cool thing to say is "SNL hasn't been funny since (insert favorite SNL cast era here)," but that's bullshit. It's the same mentality that says today's music sucks, it was so much better when I was in high school and college. That's not about the art, that's about the audience's relationship to the art. People think the stuff that happened when they were young is better than the stuff happening now. The truth is that the recent years of SNL have been something of a golden age for the show, and that's largely because they have ended the run of the boy's club mentality and started letting women really shine. Sincerely, 54 year old man who's been watching SNL since age 13
