As I see it, all those Christians who bring up doubts about the origin of the universe, the nature of the soul and other such issues are just using those as excuses to avoid taking responsibility for getting what they want out of their own lives.

Religious people have to struggle to make sense of religious contradictions. The truth is that biblical claims are no more than claims, and anyone can make claims. Christianity openly threatens people with eternal torment for disobedience, but cannot provide any supporting evidence for it. I am not aware of any valid supporting evidence for an afterlife of any kind. This rules out both heaven, and hell, and thus contradicts the claim that Jesus Christ has saved people.
@CookiesRiot2 күн бұрын
They claim they deserve infinite punishment for finite crimes, but also we are being offered mercy - even though it's actually coercion under a threat for the benefit of the judge - and that all of that is perfect justice. Literally, it cannot make sense. I am dumbfounded when I have a discussion with a Christian about hell being a threat, and they say, "God doesn't send people to hell; people send themselves to hell." According to their mythology, Yahweh made the rules, knew we would break them, made us anyway, literally kills us for breaking them, then gives us a way out on the condition that we worship him forever. In reality, that's called a threat. In Christianity, that's called perfect love.

Oh (quack), I'm one comment behind. Not often do we behold the righteous wrath of Mr. D. It's a wonder to behold. (Hope the jacuzzi helped)

Ayann the homophobe? Maybe, it's too bad Alex didn't circle back around to flesh that bit out about college campuses.

Good call on Ayaan misrepresenting Hitch and great clip for reference. I hadn’t noticed the first time I heard the podcast. This is disappointing behavior.

So let me guess. She never really stopped believing, she was just done with Islam and lashing out. Now that she's got that out of her system she's ready to go back to believing. Fine, great, she can do whatever makes her happy. What I find infuriating is the way she assumes all atheists had the same experiences (or even similar ones) she had with challenging belief. Because she was wrong about it, we all must be too, and aren't we all lucky she is here to show us the errors in our thinking. I didn't realize how arrogant she is before this. Perhaps in a few years, she will see that she's been cherry-picking pretty heavily, adopt some Christian humility, and present a more reasonable interview. I'm not holding my breath, nor am I interested. She has shown she isn't really a thinker outside of her personal situation. And what's up with Alex? Why is he doing an interview like this?

Alex has lately been doing interviews like this, I don't really watch them to be honest, I'm just saying it's been that way for some time.

Lucky day for me, Hitch and Mr. Diety. Too bad Ayaan the Gaslighter was there to harsh on my mellow. She seems so needy, desperate to find somewhere to belong. And what is it about this need to swoop in to save the kids in the university from the boogie man lurking on those campuses, a theme as old as the concept of the university itself. A long time favorite of the reactionary right and left I might add.
