My Dad worked on the beacon when it was being built. He put the holes in the tower that run up it. He took us up the tower before it opened and I remember how fast the lift went up. Special memories.

I went up the tower one Easter just before radio city took it. It opened to the public for that Easter around 1999/2000

Nice one, Nick. I wish I would have been able to up to the top of it back in the day. Ah well, maybe if they re-open it one day.

My Dad put up at least one of the aerials on top of the tower, without the use of any safety equipment. They made them tougher in those days.

Should make it a beatles themed rock restaurant and get it turning again. You could name the Restaurant Revolver.

I went up the Tower back in 2013, great views of Liverpool. Theres a creepy Video on here called Tower normal activity, it was posted years ago and shows strange things happening in the Tower, basically stuff moving around by themselves so for example chairs in the cafe bit moving/a microphone swinging round/newspaper pages turning by themselves and a cupboard door opening. Apparently it was all fake as it just happened to be really windy and the Tower was swaying. I have wondered if it is genuinely haunted though.

They used to turn off the name leaving just the 96 or latterly 97 as a tribute on the Hillsborough anniversaries.

It’s a historic local landmark and Mercyside is a better place when it’s occupied

Had a meal up there in the early '70's with my auntie, the meal wasn't anything special, more like a Bernie Inns steak & chips job.
