Football used to be a contact sport and taking that out of the game, along with players diving or rolling around in apparent agony until they get a free kick and then making a miraculous instant recovery, has taken most of the excitement out of the game. Modern "keep ball" tactics have also played their part but Matt Le Tissier is right - a lot of the excitement has gone out of the game and it's difficult to see it coming back.
