The full run of Hugh sketches from The Armando Iannucci Shows. Each week, Armando would gently cajole Hugh into reminiscing about his past. Sadly, Hugh - full name Hugh Cecil - passed away on February 11, 2004. Goodbye, Hugh.

my favourites: "You couldn't just jump into bed with a lady back then. You'd go along to her house and ask her parents if you could knock her up, and get her on crack." "We never had Feng Shui in those days, so we put all our cupboards in the wrong place, and as a result all our businesses went bust. And that was the start of the great depression."

Yeah proper dark, old school and hardcore stuff, before the polo-neck wearing, trendy, Hoxton set took over and made it all “conceptual” and “ambient” and lame sounding.

Huzzah, well said. Hugh Cecil was a superb comedy actor for many decades. I think you're right about it being profound in all of those ways. It'd be a disservice to older people to treat them like they have no bloody awareness, that they always have to be stoic and defiant. They're people, not another species. Stories make the news because they're the exception not the norm. No less disgusting, but I think you'll find there's more repsect than the Daily Mail narrative likes to present Whitney...

This isn't taking the piss out of old people: it's not as if this guy really thinks those things, I'd wager there's no-one in the entire world who actually thinks anything like what Hugh says is true.. This is scripted. It simply portrays an articulate, interesting, funny, intelligent old man and an excellent actor. I called you an idiot because you are the one belittling the aged- you would deprive us of 'Hugh's' fine performance. P.S. I don't know what subscribers are.

So, by your logic, we can never ever show old people having a laugh, they can only be filmed if they are in 'profound' scenarios. No old people in comedy. Do you cry out in indignant rage when ever Last Of The Summer Wine comes on. Further more, even if I agree with your old people/profound material rule, this is still okay because I think it is profoundly: profoundly inventive, profoundly imaginative, profoundly interesting, profoundly fun and it challenges our preconceptions.

"Some quote from the clips we just watched which I hope will make me incredibly popular and get the most likes." Sigh.

In view of the recent Council elections and the sort of OTT rhetoric that gets thrown around, just thought I'd throw in one really hyperbolic statement that some people might actually think IS going to happen. And, depending on whether there ever will be a EU referendum, maybe it might. Eastern Europeans immigrating, indigenous Brits emigrating. That's what they say they'll do, anyway.
