Well... my teacher, here in Brazil, refused to teach us Logarithms because "it was too hard to learn" (that's how it works here). So, I decided to learn on my own and I found this brilliant teacher. Thank you so much for this, this is so important for people like me who has to find alternatives to this system that doesn't care if we learn (even the basics) or not.

@@randomviewer1285 yeah, I guess so. I'm from BR as well, and only now I'm learning functions and logarithms on my own, even though I finished school in 2016. @@BurningGreyX I'm brazilian as well, we have log on exams like ENEM (high school national exam) and college entrances but even studying in a particular school we don't get this explained really well here. my teacher is good but she doesn't have the time necessary to explain something in a good way, it feels rushed and sometimes we really can't understand it. I'm in my last year in high school and I also came looking for classes like this to try and learn these stuff on my own

Actually, here in Brazil, we do learn Log, the problem is if u are in a public or private school, because the public teaching is far worse than the private. But, if u are in a private, u don’t learn if u don’t want to. Ps: For the “Big foot” the Brazil never got close to be a socialist country, so stop spreading fake news. Ps2: srry for my English 🙃

He involves the class, it is a two way interaction. The wrong way to do it namely my experience with maths, is to sit there while the teacher yawns out a load of lines at you and you copy it down like a machine. He does not give the chance for students to idle because they are all participating in it together. This is a template example of the way a class should happen and one that is a perfect example thereof.
@MsJavaWolf

@@infinitesimotel That teaching style is pretty outdated imo. It had value when we didn't have the internet, information was valuable. Now information for basic topics is everywhere, the whole value in school is personal interaction.

You can also say, how many time can you divide the result by the base until you get 1. So 3^4=81 and log3(81)=4 then 81/3=27 27/3=9 9/3=3 3/3=1 Four total steps so 4 is the answer. As for the log.sqrt3(27) you can first square the base and then work with 3 and then empower it So (sqrt3)^2=3 obviously and then divide 27 by 3 and then the answer by 3 and again so 27/3=9 9/3=3 3/3=1 So three times, 3^3, but 3 wasn’t the base. Rewrite 3 as in the base form (sqrt3)^2 and power that by your amount of steps (sqrt3^2)^3 that’ll be (sqrt3)^(2x3) or (sqrt3)^6 so answer is 6 Hope this will was clear enough and gave you another perspective on this :)

I am coming back to the subject to help students but remember being taught how to use logarithmic tables to do calculations. The big advantage in the 16th century (when they were invented) was that you could convert multiplication problems into their log number add them together and then convert the answer back to denary. But there is another way where multiplication is made so easy that it is no more difficult than adding which is by using binary arithmetic which was what Liebniz used instead of logs. I think if we taught the history of maths students would get a greater understanding of how & why these things were developed. Logarithmic graphs enable one to see growth across a wide scale.

The power function has two opposites; root and log, unlike add and multiply which both have one opposite each; minus and divide respectively. Because with power it matters which order they are in and with add and multiply it doesn't. 2+3 and 3+2 both equal 5, 2*3 and 3*2 both equal 6, but 2^3=8 and 3^2=9. So to undo 2+3=5 or 3+2=5 you would go 5−2=3 or 5−3=2. To undo 2*3=6 or 3*2=6 you would go 6/2=3 or 6/3=2. To undo 2^3=8 you would go 3root(8)=2 or log2(⁡8)=3. To undo 3^2=9 you would go 2root(9)=3 or log3(⁡9)=2.
