And an episode on The Alhambra, that Crew that is like the Cerritos, but with a twist, Dr.T'Ana mistakenly went there once. During the Pandronian rigged drills, Mariner faced a Dark Mirror Universe scenario, that Dark Boimler was bad, but Dark Rutheford and Dark Billups and Dark Meegleemo were truly frightening ! Despite her status as THE most demerited officer in all of Starfleet, Beckett Mariner is actually extremely smart and talented. Her friends at the academy had her pegged to be the first among their class to make captain. Based on a flashback, she was at the academy in 2370 and Lower Decks S1 is set in 2380. She has something like 6+ years of experience (assuming a 4 years at the Academy and her being 1st year in the flashback). Tendi, Boimler, and Rutherford are all on their first assignment.

Something I really like is how Ma'ah is considered a smaller, weaker klingon compared to his brethren on the ship he captains, but compared to everyone else, he's a monster.
@CS-bu7lo
@CS-bu7lo Жыл бұрын
Ma'ah got to be captain because he is the best combination of wise, strong, lucky and honorable on that ship. His physically stronger brethren were not wise, lucky or honorable enough. Ma'ah was wise enough to know when to obey his superiors, honorable enough to know when to refuse orders, strong enough to hold his own in a fight but also lucky to win the fight with his former captain, because the targ chose to help him. That ship's first officer was killed by the former captain because, although he was strong and honorable, he wasn't wise and lucky enough to win the fight. Ma'ah's "friends", Klingon Mariner, Rutheford and Tendi all betrayed him ( or at least two of them) because of envy for his advancement. They also laughed of Vulcan logic, which was very unwise and short sighted. I guess Klingon Mariner deserved to be punished by the first officer to scrape the barrels of ga'ah, while Human Mariner was punished by Human Ransom to clean the holo deck filters and Vulcan Mariner T'Lyn was punished with extra meditation when she wouldn't keep still. 😁 Ironically, the Human and Vulcan Mariners proved to be more honorable than the Klingon Mariner...

Tendi rebelling against her place in Orion culture by joining Starfleet as a lowly ensign has some parallels to Mariner rejecting her role as a leader, and Boimler rejecting his presumed destiny to take over the vinyard in Modesto. Even Rutherford was quite the hellraiser, from what we've seen of his backstory. And the less said about T'Lyn the Emotional Hand Grenade the better. Pretty much all of the core Lower Deckers are rebelling from what they were meant to be in their backstories for their own reasons.

@@joda7697 Sure, I get that. What puzzles me is why she thinks her past makes her less suitable to be that person as opposed to making her an even better potential commander. Being seen as logical and cool under pressure is a positive aspect. Being seen as honorable is likewise positive. Being seen as profit driven less so but passable. Being seen as a race of thieving pirates and slavers is not a positive thing no matter how "awesome" it might be to some outsiders. She doesn't want people thinking that's all she and her people are capable of being so she downplays the negative images and upsells the positives unless playing into the negative provides a crucial benefit in the moment.
