Beautiful painting. Thanks for putting that it took 45 minutes. I find that so useful to have a guide, it should take me twice as long if I want to get close to your results. Makes me want to have a try again, they are stuck in a drawer. Thanks

Thank you , Lindsay! Because of this tutorial, I bought a small set of oil pastels. It didn't have white or black, but my white art crayon worked great. I didn't want to waste good paper to practice, so I used Strathmore Printmaking paper. It worked great. I am no artist. You are an inspiration for us to keep trying.

Lovely result, I wish more people would use oil pastels, because they are a very good medium to use and paintings have a really lovely glow to them, too often I hear them referred as being inferior and that is definitely not the case. Thank you for sharing your process.

UART has great sanded paper! You can find it on Amazon and Blick's site. Just remember that sandpaper (both construction and art kinds🤣) are labeled kind of like steel gauge in that the higher the number the smaller the grit particles and the smoother the paper will be! Hope this helps 😄

Lindsay I know you are a frugal crafter but I gotta say that nobody should use hardware sandpaper for artwork even for practice. I admire you and believe that you are truly inspirational and so amazing. I only used hardware paper once and it turned green within months! My picture was delightful before the change, I am still a beginner with pastels but in all the years I have created art when I go with budget supplies that are NOT from an art source or intended for permanent results, I have paid for it in dissatisfied customers or art that fell apart much to soon! I don’t believe that you need to buy top of the line every time, but so many times I cut a corner I gotta say it never worked out for me.

For some reason I missed this one….it’s beautiful. And I do have the Mungyo oil pastels, the Paul Rubens and the portrait set of Sennelier and I haven’t made good use of any of them. I do love oil pastels though bc they’re so hands-on and messy. I have also used oil paint sticks…totally different from oil pastels….as I’m sure you know….they’re oil paint in stick form, but they’re great too. Shiva makes a very good and affordable line of them. (R&F and Sennelier very high end & $$$). Thanks!

Love this demo! The colors are great, Thanks. Perhaps the difference between hardware sand paper and sanded pastel paper is acidity? Hopefully the pastel paper is acid free so it lasts longer.
@thefrugalcrafter3 жыл бұрын
That should be the case but a few of us tested the back of our UART sanded paper and it showed acid content. Maybe its not as bad as hardware store stuff but I. The other hand it might be the same thing at 10x the price. Who can say? I'm not impressed with any acid content on paper that pricy.
