Wow - what a great video! Today is stitching day, as I have many crafty projects, which means I designate a day for stitching a day for card making etc. I am not a full on newbie to linen stitching yet all of the tutorials are so helpful. Your patterns are amazing, many are in my "stitch this" folder. Thank you so much for what joy you bring to the stitching world!

This is so good. I’m an old guy, with old eyeballs, and I’ve just stitched on Aida so far. I want to transition to linen since a major goal is to stitch historic sampler reproductions which often call for specialty stitches that work much better on linen. Your tutorial convinces me that it’s doable. Thank you! I’ve subscribed, got the handy pdf and look forward to your newsletters.

Thank you so much!!! I’ve been stitching on linen for years but never knew which hole to start in. I knew there was a particular spot you should start but never found a good explanation. I screen shotted the diagram and next new start I will be doing it correctly. Oh and apparently I have been doing the loop start wrong too! Thanks for setting me straight on that one as well! Enjoy the rest of summer 🏖️

So glad this was helpful to you! Not sure there is a wrong way to start the loop method, so long as you get the floss secured. :) Happy stitching!

Thank you for this video. I have been cross stitching for 30 years but have never tried my hand at stitching on linen. Your explanation of stitching on linen is excellent; you explained it so easily for a newbie. I did download the tutorial for reference and I ordered a pattern and fabric to stitch on 32 count linen and can't wait to start! Thanks again for the video. Peggy

Great video! I think I understand it now. I will have to get me some fabric and give it a try. Now to pick a pattern that doesn't have too many color changes. Can you show how to pick up/start the next color thread in a pattern?
@MistyPursel2 ай бұрын
I'm so glad it was helpful to you! :) For a color change it would be the same as what you see in the video. You'd either start right next to a stitch you've already completed (above, below, or beside), or you'd count away from the stitches several spaces to start it if it isn't next to what you already stitched. I hope that makes sense! :)

Great tutorial and great cameras work. If only I could zoom in like that when I stitch. lol. The magnifying glass helps, but this is great!
@MistyPursel2 ай бұрын
Thank you, Stephanie! Now that you mention it, I think you could zoom in that much with your phone when you're stitching. Just get something to hold it (I use a product called Canvas) and turn on the video recording feature--then zoom in with your fingers. You wouldn't have to hit record. You might need to tell your phone not to sleep in the settings then change it back after a session.

Thank you Misty! Very nicely done. Do you have any tips for using stretcher bars for linen? I’ve only used them for needlepoint canvas in the past.
@MistyPursel2 ай бұрын
The only thing I find is that it can be a bit tricky to get the linen taut enough, so I start pinning in one corner, stretch the fabric diagonally to another corner and pin that, then pull taught across each way and pin. Then I pull the fabric taut at the center and pin at the center point between each pin and keep narrowing it down like that. Sometimes even with all my efforts, I still have to redo my pinning. :)

Thank you. I noticed how tight your linen is in the video. I might try that some time.

Does is always have to be 2 over 2? Am I crazy to try stitching for a first time on linen 1 over 1?
@MistyPursel2 күн бұрын
I don't think it's crazy to do 1 over 1. I just would make sure you can see the stitches clearly, whichever fabric count you choose, and use magnification if needed. I'll say that stitching 1 over 1 on 40 count linen would probably be too much, but something like a 28 or 32 count should be doable as long as you can see it well. I hope you like it! I love stitching 1 over 1! :)

I was wondering about magnification. I am definitely having trouble seeing and it is making this "simple" project not very fun. why does it matter where the weave is when you are starting a project? I would also like to see how you have your set up for stitching. I am having pain in my hand (probably because I can't see it too well) but I can't seem to find a stand or something that eases my hand pain. thank you for this video!
@KimStevenson-y1p17 күн бұрын
I too, was wondering about the weave. I wonder if it matters on eve weave? I’ve just started stitching on it before delving into linen. As far as magnification. I wear bifocals normally and they weren’t great for stitching. Trying to put readers on top of regular glasses were a pain. I ended up taking my stitching with me to the eye doctor and having her prescribe a magnification that I could see to stitch. They’re still bifocals because I’m usually watching tv or Flosstube while stitching. I took the prescription to Eyeglass Warehouse and got 2 pair for $100. Totally worth it! 😊

I think the most important thing is just to be consistent about which thread you start over. I find that starting the way I showed helps me see more easily where to make the next stitch.
@MistyPursel16 күн бұрын
For magnification, you could try reading glasses, MagEyes, or a lamp with a magnifier. I've used all three separately depending on the project I was working on. Does the pain in your hand result from holding your stitching in your hand (holding a hoop/frame of some kind) or just from the action of stitching?
