I’m going into a faith based rehab center tomorrow and it’s because I’m a functioning alcoholic. I’m only 21. I’m a college student but dated this girl for 4 years and she left about 6 months back. But I trust that Jesus will set me free from this and am excited about the testimony I’ll be able to share when I get back. I’m gonna be going from Louisiana to West Palm Beach, Florida. I'm so sorry that happened. I'm sorry for the demons you've faced, and although I don't know her or if she did anything monstrous, I also am sorry for your ex's demons and I hope somehow she's won that battle in the end. If not then at least you did the right thing and got your son out of there. My father abandoned me when I was 4, I don't even remember him. He died last year. I wasn't invited to the funeral but I learned he passed when my siblings who I did not know existed reached out to me. He never sent me a birthday card. He never called. I don't know his voice. I taught myself to ride a bike, taught myself to shave, but some things? I never did learn. I was too afraid to try and never had a dad to encourage me. I'm crying just thinking about it. He never paid a cent in child support. We never went to court to make him pay. We struggled, ate ramen and bologna, lived in our car sometimes, but we didn't want to hurt anyone else. We survived. After he died and my siblings reached out, I learned he had a very successful street-sweeping business for the last several decades. He lived 20 minutes from me, and was essentially a millionaire including assets. I've never been able to forgive him. If he was poor it'd be one thing. But learning he was rich, never paid child support, no cards no calls, I'm left to conclude he just didn't love or want me. His son... What I'm saying is...well I'm venting to a stranger, but I'm saying thank you for making sure your son didn't have to go through this life. I'm a grown man and I still sometimes BREAK DOWN over never having a father.

Praying the Lord removes the taste from your mouth like He did for me and that one day you can chuckle with the Lord about how hard it used to be to say no to that sip. It was so hard and He took it all away. I don't even have to try any more. It's just gone. 3 yrs now. I drank a year ago on a couple occasion w/ friends. And nah, it really didn't do anything for me. My last sip was a margarita a couple bought me at a ski resort back in March. Something changed. I got up & threw the margarita away. The power of Jesus when we surrender completely to Him breaks every chain. I pray this for you and everyone who reads this and needs the same power in their life. Amen

Everyday is a chance to improve and change . One day at a time . Everyday is a new day . I was a chef and alcoholic for 13 years until I met my wife a few years ago. We now have two little girls and I'm 4 years sober and quit smoking . You are not alone. There are plenty of us out there. Strength is in numbers. It's are job to support each other . I'm also a runner now that runs 40 miles a week and a chef supervisor for a upscale retirement community. Just remember your not alone. I couldn't control my drinking from age 17 to 30 .

Absolutely love this song! As the one who walked away, I think the video depicts alcoholism perfectly! In my opinion or from my perspective, it shows how things were great at one point but looks like they're BOTH drowning! Like regardless of how much they want to hold onto each other, they end up slipping away from each. By getting out, she saved herself, at the same time, cleared the flooding for him too... Alcoholism doesn't affect only the alcoholic! All those who love the alcoholic, are drowning too. It's incredibly hard to get to the point where you finally walk away, and it's generally only after enduring an immeasurable amount of pain and never because you stopped caring! It's generally because staying is no longer safe whether that be physically or emotionally. The alcoholic and those who love them are never the same people anymore, by the time it ends!

Alcoholism causes so much betrayal and cheating. It’s awful. I just ended a relationship this past Sunday with one. Seeing them together was heartbreaking. But I walked away cool, calm and collected. I’ve cried a small amount ( it was only 3 1/2 months in ) and closed the door. He’s continued to text me a few times each day. And all he gets is silence. During that time I’ve found out he has two DWI’s already, spent 30 days in jail and a year on an ankle bracelet. You’d never look at him and tell because he’s so successful. Money and those who continue to love all the treating them to drinks etc help enable them. Unfortunately, those same people will be too busy when the alcoholic is suffering with extreme health issues and needing help.

Man this song hits home so deep for me... this song was me before i met my wife. Had a long time (6 years) girlfriend that cheated on me before i was going to propose. I turned so hard to alcohol to forget but all it did was make me miss her more even though she had ripped me into pieces so I just drink more rather than facing the fact I didn’t need her. I finally realized how much worse i was when hitting the bottle and after a really good sober week I realized that I didn’t need her to see how bright the sun really was all I needed was me my friends/ family and fishing.
