I have healthy alternatives for foods I love. Just got blood work done, everything is good, but I got to lower my bad cholesterol. I'm now doing 150+ minutes of cardio a week, and over 9 months the results have been awesome. I'm 42, a stroke victim, and I'm doing so much better now. I met him at my gym once, it's almost comedic how calm, smart, respectful and genuine he is in person compared to his videos. I really love his message for driving that intensity and passion in the gym. You can really get like close to 80-90% of gains just bring your A game every time for bodybuilding (he also says control the weight which I honestly think is good enough, I love RP and Dr.Mike but that's really more nuanced and marginal optimization imo). 6:17 - man... if someone had introduced me to the joy - the meditative, zen bliss - of just lifting when I was a youngin' I feel like it would have completely changed the trajectory of my life's health journey. I think the thing that was missed in the delivery to me as a youth was that it doesn't have to be a competition; you don't have to compare to anyone else when you lift (or run, for that matter). It can be just you versus gravity. And that's what I've fallen in love with finding lifting in my 40s. Everyone just minding their own damn business, putting the work in at the gym. I can lift heavy af and not have to worry about making somebody else feel bad: can just focus on the good feels for myself.

There is a BIG BIG BIG difference between doubling the weight and doubling the reps
@mitchellhooperstrongman5 ай бұрын
And which do you think is harder?
@RichardSmith-nd9vk5 ай бұрын
@@mitchellhooperstrongman For those that don't know already, doubling the weight means your 1 rep max is about double. But if you double the reps on an exercise, your 1 rep max displayed might be about 10-20% higher. Here's a chart used to approximate it: Repetitions Percentage of 1RM 1 100% 2 97% 3 94% 4 92% 5 89% 6 86% 7 83% 8 81% 9 78% 10 75% 11 73% 12 71% 13 70% 14 68% 15 67% 16 65% 17 64% 18 63% 19 61% 20 60% etc. If you bench 150lbs for 5, your 1 rep max is estimated to be around 169lbs. But if you double the reps and bench 150lbs for 10, your 1 rep max is estimated to be 200lbs. If you double the weight, now you're benching 300lbs for 5, which is obviously a lot harder than benching 200lbs for 1.
@emartinezr5 ай бұрын
@mitchellhooperstrongman doubling the weight (for the same reps) much harder.
@republicjim1205 ай бұрын
@@RichardSmith-nd9vk I would say the one exception to this (and where conversion charts cease to have any meaning) is if you are doing extremely high reps, especially for a big lift like squats. Say an average Joe does 30 or more reps with a relatively light weight. Most very strong guys would probably find it easier to match those reps with twice the weight rather than doing 60 (or more) with the same light weight. However, at that point it's more about muscle endurance and pain tolerance than actual strength, so I do realize it's apples and oranges.

Indeed, I do that in Pilates but with resistance band instead of a weight.

Great job Greg I feel like I'm in same boat I'm big and strong enough just want to be a bit leaner another 10lbs or so and considering doing full body workouts every other day and cardio + walks/rucks with 45lbs on off days. I have some weak spots like rear delts, forearms and calves I can do on off days till they get there.

I'd've never imagined Mitchell doing abductors on Brazilian Funk beat 18:54 🤣
