I had a high school teacher who, as a kid, got their hand stuck in a meat grinder and lost all four fingers past the big knuckles and half of his thumb. Back then his family didn't have money for doctor visits, so they just kept it as clean as they could and bandaged, and he lived. That is to say, if you don't lose all of your blood or let your blood get infected, you have a pretty good chance of living through amputation.

Smb3 records are slow because of rng. Just getting no hands alone on a run up to that point is hard enough. If smb3 didn't have such unavoidable rng then it would probably be like other Mario's with flawless runs. The rng is why it's popular and avoided by alot of the runners

I’m watching you do 8-1 and I’m thinking: given that 8-1 and 8-2 fit the themes of the first two worlds, do you think the smb3 devs’ plan originally was to make “dark” versions of levels that would be in the other worlds (a dark underwater level for 8-3, a dark big level for 8-4, etc), but maybe they just ran out of time or space? I’ve never been able to officially confirm this theory anywhere, but it makes sense to me. Thanks and congrats on WR!

For a moment I was wondering why he wasn't running and jumping into the cards at full speed, and I realized it's because he doesn't want to get 3 stars in a row (or any 3 items in a row, but it's easiest to get stars, since all you need to do is run and hit the lower left corner at full speed) because getting rewarded with an item wastes time.
