Tonight I saw you sing this on agt a recording on KZbin. The only one to move me, watching two hours of it with my new wife. I never got into that show in the past, but I guess there was a reason to see it tonight. You express how I am feeling I lost my first son hours after birth in July of 1985. I Lost my last born son July 31st 2023. It was his first day to school driving inexperienced. He had chosen to live with others by court order. He was 17, his senior year. I will never know why he hit that tree at about 6 am. I am blaming a lot of people including myself and God. I am so glad you found peace and I hope I will some day. I hope you have great success and a lifetime of happiness with your loved ones and son.

My dad wasn’t around a whole lot growing up, but my mother’s father took his place. He took my little brother and with him around the farm all the time imparting little perls of wisdom and teaching about the cane and peanut crops and about little life lessons. He was a man of few words but when he spoke you listened. I can count on one hand with fingers to spare the amount of times he ever told me he loved me (only one of his kids and grandkids he said it to, but I got cancer at 14 7 weeks after we lost my nana and I think it terrifies him into saying it out loud to me) but even before he told me the first time at 14 I never once doubted how much he loved me be his actions spoke louder than words ever could. For my 21 birthday I just wanted to have a fish and chip lunch with him (I spend every Saturday night with him and nana until I was 14 and we always had fish and chips for tea after Saturday night mass before an ice cream and watching the bill) so that’s what I did, he even let me take a photo with him that day, a rare occasion as he hated his photo taken, and then 6 weeks later he tripped up the back steps and knocked his head, my uncle took him to the hospital and they thought he was fine, but he was on blood thinners and because of that a tiny bleed on his brain that was undetectable with the first scans killed him three days later. 3 days before his fall he had been driving the tractor and on top of the roof fixing the wiring to the porch light, despite being in his 80’s he was still very strong, active and healthy and would have easily lived another 10 years if he hadn’t tripped. Losing him is one of the hardest things I’ve ever been through, he was a,ways my rock. I’d told him a couple years before he dies (I think we got onto to topic when we were talking about the meaning of the name one of my cousin’s chose for their baby) that when I had kids I wanted the name the first of each after him and nana, and he did his little “Proud and chuffed” noise, trying to hide his grin and moving the conversation off of himself (he didn’t like being centre of attention one bit haha). Just after my 25th birthday I held up my promise and named my son after my grandy. I just know grandy would have adored his little name sake, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his world, and my son is so much like him in his personality and mannerisms. I’m convinced that grandy sent me my little boy, after the chemo and stem cell transplant I only had a 1%chance of ever getting pregnant and I high chance of miscarriage if I did, grandy knew all this and also just how much I wanted kids and for a couple other reasons I truly think he sent him to me Bec he knew I needed this beautiful little human, and it definitely helps the edges of the wound he left in my heart start to scab over. I love you grandy.xx
