Packing tape is a great suggestion. I'm sure people have been doing it for a while but its new to me! I had to change cabinet hardware the other day from old non standard size pieces to some slick modern brushed nickel ones. The holes didn't perfectly cover so I grabbed a piece of clear acrylic for my jig so I could se through and make sure my new hardware would cover the old holes.

Thats awesome. Good way to troubleshoot and verify on the fly. Clear makes a lot of this stuff easier and yields better results.

@@kendecost The natural charm of those in the trades yeah? It's good to see real people. I'm not a fan of overly polished construction channels where everyone is just over the top nice and polite. We all know how we are in the construction industry lol.

What brand of wood glue do you use for your cabinets?
@kendecost
@kendecost 3 жыл бұрын
We don't actually use glue for the boxes themselves. For other joinery like these miter folds we are using a PVA glue.

Packing tape miter folds all day long. How do you combat wood fibers being removed when pulling the tape? I’m sure materials such as that veneer are especially prone to pulling fibers when removing tape
@kendecost
@kendecost 3 жыл бұрын
Carefully. To be honest I don't get a ton of fibers being pulled off with the tape. I pull the tape at an angle so its a bit gentler on the fibers. Or maybe is the type of tape.

I can't figure out why sliding panel saws aren't more common here in the U.S. They are all over the place in Europe, and such a better tool than the standard U.S. table saw.

Cost. A slider starts at around 6-8k for a basic Tiawan import or nice German small slide and can be equipped to 40-60k with NC fence and arbor controls.

Honestly, I don't think a lot of people know about them oddly enough. Also, like Stan said, the cost of entry may be too high for most.

@@kendecost that is also correct. I had no idea these things existed for the longest time. However, when I found out it was like the heavens opened up and the light came down. They are amazing saws. Super versatile and great for cabinets and fine furniture. They do take a bit of a process change to adapt to them. It should be noted there is a decent second hand market if you look for a bit and don’t mind wiring up a vfd.

Why no riving knife on the panel saw?
@kendecost
@kendecost 3 жыл бұрын
We switch blades so often and we typically run thin kerf blades. The riving knife on this saw is for a wider blade.

That's one hell of a table saw that I will probably never be able to afford, or have the room for. But I'm just a guy doing things for himself! I'll stick with a circular saw and edge guide for now.

Not a bad set up, can't go wrong with it. We all have different needs. These saws are BIG.
