You are what I wish modern Morbid Angel was. You are the new Azagthoth in my book. Incredible stuff. The leads are so cool and epic. Love the delivery of the vocals too, they’re Very old school, less harsh than other modern dm bands, more Nocturnus than Nile. Very refreshing to hear someone who isn’t just trying to be more brutal than everyone else and is making tasteful melodies and creating interesting atmospheres without slowing the music down or just playing a bunch of multi-bar tremolo picked chords (a la deafheaven. Not that I don’t love that band). You and Gigan are the current masters of your necks of the death metal woods at the moment, in my book. Edit: also, I love your solos

@TupDigital3 жыл бұрын
I think their vocal style complements their sound perfectly though, like it doesn't need to be super gutterals or typical sounding. I like it. Also to me gives it a distinct proud British style vibe, like if Sir Walter Raleigh was a dm vocalist he would have likely gone this route. Dopeness. 👍👍cheers from the 13 colonies

Hey, sorry if you've already answered this somewhere, but what amps/pedals do you use on guitars? I love your guitar tone, especially on Worlds Beyond the Veil, it's so thick and huge sounding, it's not the super tight and clear modern tone that lot's of bands are using.
@Mithras7 жыл бұрын
hey Justin, I don't go into exact details about the guitar rig I use, as it's not something you can buy off the shelf. I use a really old rack pre amp which I've modified, as well as eqs pre and post the pre-amp stage. A big part of the sound comes from my guitars and pickups too. We've used a similar guitar sound on our last three records and also for some leads on our debut album. Though I think the tone is especially crushing and pretty clear on the latest record 'On Strange Loops' you're right that it's not the generic death metal tone where everyone pretty much uses one of three very similar amps or digital models of them. On 'Worlds...' a lot of the guitars are quad tracked which thickens them up even more!
@JustinBA0077 жыл бұрын
Mithras Oh wow, the modified pre amp is probably why it's so unique. And I saw your production diary, and saw your Ibanez guitars. I also use Ibanez.
@Mithras7 жыл бұрын
Justin Brantley I use the older universe models, and specifically the stock blaze pickups, but waxed which gives a tighter sound
@JustinBA0077 жыл бұрын
Mithras Thanks for replying man, I just recently got into your band, and for the past 4 or 5 days, it's been all I've been listening to (I've listened to Worlds about 12 times). My other guitarist writes most of the stuff for our band, and it's not super brutal, but I've been wanting to do a side project under a different name that's only my songwriting and is atmospheric death metal, and you guys, Cynic, and Timeghoul have been a huge influence.

Hey Dominic. The lineup right now is the same as it's been since the start of 2017, which is just me (Leon) doing everything in the studio. Since 2002 Mithras has always basically been a duo for recording and we've brought in live members, but original vocalist/bassist Rayner unfortunately quit Mithras before the completion and release of the last album 'On Strange Loops' in 2016 so he's no longer involved.
