Hi Everyone! Most golfers do not have enough tilt and lose their posture. Thus, I thought it would be neat to examine Pereira's swing, since it is the opposite of what we usually see when golfing at public courses. To be clear, I customize my lessons for each of my students; I only teach positions that are within the limitations of someone's flexibility. Pereira is an outlier. My spine would explode with that movement

For sure - Pereira's movement is definitely not for everyone. I customize my lessons based on the physical limitations and flexibility for each of my students.

I am curious though. Do you think that excesive side bend is necessary? He gets his shoulder perpendicular to the ground to then recover (see 1:58 to 2:00). What is he getting from that? (apart from future complications in his spine and hips). Wouldn't he be much more accurate and equaly fast if he were to just keep his shoulders leveled?.

Great Question! Players can surely still golf well without a lot of side bend at P7. However, one's tilt & keeping the hips back are usually correlated. When a golfer can maintain tilt, it opens up room for the arms to get in front of the body. Consequently, this makes it easier to exit left post-impact, which usually renders an improved ball flight. The majority of PGA players have far more tilt than your typical weekend golfer does - both at impact & during the backswing. Lastly, you make an excellent point about the risk of injuries. I only teach positions that are feasible based on my student's unique body type. If something is ever causing pain in your golf swing, then it is time to make a change! - David

“I hope he can hang on to this lead he has” Narrator: He did not.

True! However, Mito still had a nice payday of $870,000

This is a swing that only works for young, flexible, extremely coordinated persons. All that head movement and twisting makes consistent ball striking very difficult.

??? Does he drive it Straight ? Fairways in regulation ? What's his average drive ? Longest Drive ? Why did you laugh about his shoulders paralell to ground ? Why Brilliant ? Why Demanding ? Where does his club head speed rank ? What about his dang Bobblehead ? Why do you like his swing if it took him into the water at 18 ? You are too vague. XX

I’m confused too. A lot of the things he’s pointing out as “amazing”/“brilliant”/“wild” are actually terrible fundamentals.

Hi TJ, Mito is currently averaging 304 yards off the tee, and he is ranked 4th in the world (PGA Tour) for GIR. I agree that this video left out several details, but definitely check out some of the more comprehensive content on my channel. Unfortunately, my KZbin analytics indicate that a lot of viewers prefer short videos.

I'm not particularly a fan of the 21st century swing. Just me -- not trying to drum up any disagreements.

You make a fair point, Jeff! Check out some of my other videos on Payne Stewart, Ben Hogan, and other historical golfers.
