Lecture recordings shall be clear to understand the words of the speaker, including any questions and answers. Thank you MIT. Love this stuff.

Thank you MIT for providing this. It's helping me immensely with software design requirements and specifications. I know beggars can't be choosers, but I really wish the audio was clear. It feels like my ears are violated.

On the difference between requirements and specifications: unfortunately, English is a fuzzy language, as you can "specify requirements", therefore i've personally seen a "Requirements Specification" document in the automotive field
@jadamuzg14 жыл бұрын
In the example of the microwave, the weight was listed as a spec, but what if there's a requirement that states: "The microwave shall weigh a maximum of 45lbs." What category is that now?
@general90643 жыл бұрын
Requirements. Specs are only known when the product is out.

Is there a mathematical way to model requirements and specification? Because as is, the current distinction given seems ambiguous. E.g. If I included "The microwave should be made of stainless steel" then I would have a requirement instead of part of a specification as in the example around minute 24. Is there a precise model? Thanks! :)
@tomlangfeldt86844 жыл бұрын
It is unambiguous so it is a specification, being precise enough in the given context is another story

In many Project Technical Specifications I have seen are essentially just requirements. This is spinning me out.

This is also an academic exercise. Professor is making distinctions. In business (which are controlled by contracts) these terms can be defined at the beginning of the contract.

The camera should focus on the student who is speaking.
@mitocw2 жыл бұрын
Two main reasons students aren't recorded: Intellectual Property (IP) and recording setup. 1) IP: Students aren't normally recorded. To record students, their permission must be secured for publication. 2) Most cameras for recording are setup to capture the instructor and the chalk.white boards. Recording students requires extra production work.
