Go J series? That's a horrible idea, don't get me wrong they're good motors and he's wrong about practicality. A J series swap makes perfect sense if you want a quick daily driver that can cruise, get good gas mileage depending on the weight of the car, and really pull so that you can merge onto the highway. But racing wise there's not as much support, you'd be competing in a V6 class, and your not as light as you would be in a K swapped car which is what Hondas are good at. Engineering wise the SOHC VTEC in the J series is only on the intake side which means it SUCKS compared to the K series DOHC i-VTEC. As far as maintenance wise a J series that's been shoe horned into a Civic or Integra is going to be about as much fun and easy to work on as a Twin Turbo 300ZX and don't forget you'll probably have to butcher your baby and cut a massive hole in the hood to get it to fit. Not mentioning the real bottle neck of all swaps, parts availability, a manual transmission for a J series swap is about as easy to find as a Virgin in college and a manual transmission with an LSD, which is the one you're going to want with all the torque a J series makes, is even harder to find. The list goes on, the point is there are more cons than pros for a J series swap when compared to a K series that this guy didn't point out simply because he hasn't researched the swap in its entirety. If you want a practical and quick daily that could pull on 80% of what's out there then yeah go J series with an auto swap, it'll be cheap and effective but if you want to build a competitive street/track car then go K. There's a reason all of the Top FWD Time Attack Cars are K powered and not J.
@MITONFILMS7 жыл бұрын
+Jacob Flores Believe it or not J series is used in the lower end time attack classes because in stock or close to stock form it has way better torque/hp because of the displacement. Drag racing is a completely different story so i cannot talk about that. K series i will agree is better in the higher hp range and J is better for the stock-ish swap in an EG/DC. J series is definitely not practical and depending on j choice the intake mani will stick out the hood making it not the most daily friendly. If you want a quick daily just boost it 👌
@oOFallenThunderOo7 жыл бұрын
That's cool I didn't know that. I should mention I was referring to the Top FWD Unlimited Time Attack Cars. You won't necessarily have cut the hood if you have the adjustable Hasport mounts but the you have to choose between ground clearance or hood clearance. Still have to disagree with you when it comes to practicality though, a Auto J swaped Civic or Integra would be very stout on the highway, great on gas, and as long as the swap was done well and with as most OEM parts as possible it should be reliable. I don't know how that's not practical, will it be a little loud? Depending on the exhaust system but other then that an Auto J series should be very tame. The K series is an overall better engineered motor. Who wants to run a boosted D series when you could use that money to pay for a motor swap, and then boost it.
@MITONFILMS7 жыл бұрын
Jacob Flores you'd be surprised how many people constantly comment about how D series is still good/relevant and how you shouldnt doubt it. Nowadays anything is possible. Its all about money to power ratio ( unless you are rich)
@oOFallenThunderOo7 жыл бұрын
Miton Films No I wouldn't because I've seen them, the D series basically has a cult following which has got a few merits, but the cost to power ratio of that motor is too high unless you're rich, blind to the benefits of the other motors available, or just really love the D lol
@dayadam167 жыл бұрын

Stock for stock, the j32a2 and the cl-s 6 speed will eat any other swap. Bolt ons and suspension and you have a very manageable 300hp beast. I did my j swap in a ek Civic and it runs mid 12s. Really only took me about 3k, doing all the work myself. It's heavy, and has more torque then necessary for daily uses. But coilovers, traction bar and bushings and you can corner with the rest of them. The hasport mounts are adjustable so you don't have to cut the hood. Makes for the ultimate sleeper. Just my opinion. Been driving my j swap daily for about 3 years. No issues.

I am doing a kswap on my channel an I have no mechanical nor any ASE credentials, all u need is to research and hours of it. the kseries is overated yes but it has a better HP per liter than the jseries and the jseries isn't that easy, you still have to remove the spot welds from passenger side mounts, cut out or get a ktuned shifter box and wiring harness. Hondas best engine is the f20c and f22c fron factory and people still swap them for the k20 because of how advance it is. if you are looking for easy and quick power just go boosted B,D or H series.

J Series. Like you said, it's different - not many have done it, it's still pretty rapid for fast road, sounds (IMO) better, looks awesome, if you're smart about it you don't have to cut a hole in the bonnet (hood) and with some gentle breathing mods and ECU work you can look at close to 300bhp for less than the cost of a K swap. I did mine because why not? It's not an engine we get in the UK so it was hard ass work to get it right, but it's just about there and if you stick my car next to a K series car, I'd love to see which got more attention with the bonnet open.
@alickswiden715 жыл бұрын
should definitely clear 300bhp with just a tune and yeah probably intake. I'm not sure how much power can be made with bolt ons and a tune, but you'd also be able to do forced induction without needing new rods and pistons as long as you keep it under 500bhp. Once you have all forced internals, that block lasts until around 800... most people probably don't want to deal with pushing it that much but with forged internals and a tune, it'll definitely last forever and still have more than enough power

As a J series owner, here are couple of things I want to mention. J series are awesome V6 motors that can be found in a lot of cars, but they are lack of aftermarket support. The performance mods for j series are literally nothing compared to what you can get with K series. For example I only know skunk2 makes couple of cams for J series and that's about it. As far internals, no one really makes crank, piston and rods for J series, I know you can get high compression ratio pistons but I don't think much people will risk 12:1 CR As for forced induction, again, not much products you could get. They are couple of superchargers you could get but thas about it. I really wish more manufacturers would introduce us with something, but I'm not really sure about it.

If I wanted to do a J swap with an automatic transmission, would that be smart for a good daily? That’s really all I’m trying to build is a nice, fast daily
@imincognito76385 жыл бұрын
I've done multiple swaps and I can tell you they are disappointing unless your adding a significant amount of displacement. The cost and work of a twin screw supercharger with forged pistons, titanium connecting rods and stronger head studs will be less than or equal to the cost of a swap but will give many-fold power gains over what a swap will. My advice to anyone wanting to swap is drive a swapped car first, my bet is you wont end up swapping after you see first hand that 50 or 60 extra peak horsepower with little to no horsepower and torque increases through most of the power band is very disappointing.

Jeoffrey Rosman no h block is stronger then a k, show me a video of a stock sleeve h series hitting 800whp or a fully stock block hitting 500 whp and I'll believe that. K series are high revving monsters perfect for boost, factory forged The H series is a crazy smooth, even powerband great for all motor power, and so decently under boost. And hey, the gen five prelude is one of the best looking Hondas ever! The B series are perfect for wind it to the moon style engine builds. Love them all. The H22 is a perfect balance for almost any small chassis Honda. Pair it with the F23 engine block, for the iron piston sleeves, and breath some boost into it. Cams/Porting go a long way aswell, seeing that it is a great flowing head.

H22a1 closed deck block. 15 psi of boost and f22a transmission. You'd have a stout 550 ish HP and nicely long gearing for broad use of power. O and btw it would be stupid cheap. Even with shop labor
@robertmurillo96627 жыл бұрын
What do you mean J series isn't practice I daily drove one for a good year rain or shine with the 3.5 sticking out of the hood in California. It's a stock engine (Honda reliability). It's as practical as the K series. Meaning you'll need an ecu axles shift linkage custom harness motor mounts, and a good tunner. However I don't think a k series will put down 317hp and 305tq with just a tune stock engine NA.

I agree on J series being a good choice. I bought a TSX v6 with the J35. In that car I can run with the mustang v6 and Lexus is350 no problem stock. It's almost a great sleeper when you swap down to the stock TSX 17" rims using 235/50/r17 tyres. While speedtraps are on the look out for the Mustangs, Civic Si and Focus ST, I can travel with ease. Plus you can throw the v6 accord supercharger in this motor to boost it to 380hp+.

I love k series it is for sure the best motor to swap but for the money i dont think i can spend 10k just to have the k20 or k24 dropped in my car. Its not the engine thats expensive its the parts and you cannot cheap out on k series, kpro alone costs an arm and a leg. Not to mention even a fully built k trans is a ticking glass time bomb. Power for money id definately say h2b is the best to go. B series trans are way superior to k in terms of strength and reliablity and theyre cheap. The adapter plate isnt much money and the h series engine isnt that expensive either. Yea you cant beat technology but honestly most people that go k dont build their car to be at full potential so whats the point of dropping 10k just to have 220hp when you can get that out of an h series or a properly built b20v? Not hating on k its a great motor but for the money i dont think its really worth it. My mechanic has over 10k on his k24/20 with a 4piston head and forged internals, JUST the motor alone. Most people go K series just to say "yea bro i have a K series hehe". Unless you're really looking for some sfwd or 1320 type of power id say look at the other swap options.
@MITONFILMS7 жыл бұрын
Fragz914 Exactly the point I was trying to give! K series isnt affordable to everyone like many other engines.
@fragz91457 жыл бұрын
Miton Films yea its really crazy. You have to have painfully deep pockets to go K. Anybody who says otherwise doesnt know anything about going K. Even my friend who tried to budget it as much as possible he ended up spending 8k doing the work himself its ridiculous. Like i said most people go k just to say they have a k series they keep it in the 200-240hp range which is pointless and stupid if you invested 10k just to drop the motor in your car. Im still leaning on building the bottom end on my LSV and going turbo but an h2b build is still an option im thinking about.
