I was diagnosed with minor prolapse and then 13 years later I have severe regurgitation and now require open heart surgery at the age of 53. Was a shocker and not expected. I am glad you mentioned periodic check ups for it because I was not told that. It was caught before any damage was done to the heart, so that is a good thing.

Guys, I am an extremely anxious and nervous person. And as incredible as it seems until 4 weeks ago I was perfectly fine, I had nothing. On April 20th, early in the morning, I woke up with tremendous palpitations, already feeling panicked and short of breath. I left the room and went to the living room in despair, thinking I was dying. A discomfort that I wouldn't wish on anyone. Afterwards, these panic attacks no longer happened the way they did, but as the days went by I felt fatigue, difficulty breathing normally and the palpitations continued. I went to the doctor and he ordered echo and Holter exams. As I am extremely anxious and fearful, I went to check the echo exam and found mild aortic valve insufficiency and mitral valve prolapse. Now the way I am I can't have peace anymore, I'm always anxious and thinking I'm going to die. I'm Brazilian and I've seen several videos of doctors saying it's nothing serious, but I've been feeling tired and constantly short of breath. Oh I don't know, I didn't want to be the way I am, I suffer for everything.

I was diagnosed when I was young, maybe around age 16? My parents never wanted me to check it out annually after doctors recommended we do, since we were so distant from the nearest place to have it checked. I don't hold it against them. They were busy folks and they were told that my condition was minor. It's probably one of my greatest fears for my own body to be killing me. And I have never stopped going into panic attacks whenever I remember I have minor heart valve prolapse. I know that being anxious about it doesn't help me. I'm in college now at age 21, and now I want to take matters into my own hands. I can't tell how serious this is for me personally, especially since I haven't been keeping aware of its condition and already have a weak constitution on top of just plain bad luck. Additionally, I am extremely prone to long periods of anxiety, which I hear is bad for the heart. I was told, however, that I shouldn't take too much anesthesia. Which concerns me, since I do someday hope to have children...But I have to keep hope and work with the future. Sharing because knowing that I'm NOT the only one has been a huge help. And I want to give back to the sense for others.

Hi Becky, This is very interesting. In the 15+ years that we have been operating HeartValveSurgery.com, we have yet to hear from a patient with his/her heart valve disease healing itself. From our understanding, heart valve disease is a structural heart problem - similar to a faulty/rusty/leaky valve in your kitchen sink. He said it's bc im athletic and need to quit smoking. @HeartValveSurgery29 күн бұрын
Hi Wayne, Thanks for sharing your story with us. Did you end up getting surgery for your mitral valve prolapse after it reached the severe level?
@WayneGreen-g8l29 күн бұрын
@@HeartValveSurgery Thanks for asking. The discovery of severe regurgitation was with an MRI which showed bi-leaflet prolapse, myxomatous degeneration, and pseudo mitral annular disjunction (along with 38% tricuspid regurgitation and mild aortic / pulmonary regurgitation). My cardiologist has ordered a transesophageal echocardiogram. I'm supposed to have surgery with a da Vinci robot after those results have been examined. We're looking at two or three months from now for the surgery. For the PVCs, they had me on diltiazem, a beta-blocker and flecainide which didn't help. After months of PVCs, I tried Nattokinase and other supplements which fixed the problem although the cardiologists don't believe it. They say that the MVP caused the PVC, and that the meds helped. I believe that it's the other way around: the PVCs worsened the MVP. I also have issues with painful supraventricular-tachycardia (SVT) which followed after a spinal fusion surgery in late 2011. I'll try to keep the link to this and post what happens.

Of course Drs re.my Back/Neck & hearing (had a test) say its unrelated to either, no cause or cure. It sucks having a constant hum with me. Of course, I'm not going to 'hope' for a heart surgery just to try to rid me of Tinnitus, BUT after hearing your ear-click's gone since surgery!?! Just wow! I've adhered to this except I'm always in pain(heart region), my feet hurt... and sometimes the pain in my heart turns into a sharp piercing one.... it doesn't really last for long, leaves me weak and tired though. Also, I just want to point out how I'm always tired and how the dull pain in the heart never really goes away, it sort of just intensifies then subsides.

The first few days were tough, and although everything sounded good, the follow up ultrasound picked up a small leak still, but not as bad as it was and so far it’s just to be monitored as it could change as things heal (hopefully for the better). Unfortunately now, currently at week 5 I have tested positive for Covid, so combining a sore chest with coughing and sneezing is not fun, and I wouldn’t recommend it. What happened at your dr appointment? Curious to know as I have started to have more symptoms lately. I am setting an appointment with a new cardiologist to get a new perspective on my condition.

Yes, many people do have mild mitral regurgitation which may not need treatment. That said, please continue to monitor and ask questions about valve disease progression.

Im here to check what is mitral valve prolapse and how i can cure it by myself … I just found your channel but i want to know what is your opinion about people who have mitral prolapse and low oxygen when doing physical activity

Hi Cindy, It's an exciting time. Medical science is advancing at a very quick pace. However, as mitral valve prolapse is a structural problem within your heart, we have yet to learn of way that the valve can cure itself. That said, there are many therapies, devices and technologies that have been developed to help patients with mitral valve disease. I hope the educational videos here in this channel will help you learn more about those therapies that might help restore your ability to exercise without issue.

I have a nasty case of MVP with regurgitation, it has gotten so bad in the last 25 years that I now have episodes where my heart starts to flutter so badly that it causes full body tremors. I have to go in and see my cardiologist tomorrow morning to get a echocardiogram, blood work and EKG to determine no other damage has been done to my heart or the valve itself. I guess we'll see

Sounds like you're going to need a valve replacement, but that's no big deal now a days!
