Oh my god! I just realised in the first scene the makeup on the lady’s face comes off, revealing her actual skin colour. There’s something poetic in the fact she chose to hide her face rather than hold her lover’s. Beautiful foreshadowing

It's a woman chasing love because she can't be happy by herself. He rejects her because she's wearing full body make-up and a wig (she doesn't accept herself), and along the way she dumps an actual good lover's hearts (the biker, which she used as a means to an end), just to the chase her selfish desire, and of course it doesn't pay off, she got her validation and that's it. So in the end of she goes to become the one who steals people's hearts and leave them hanging, just as it happened to the happy guy probably.

(sorry if i have a bad eng ) my interpretation is that mitski "gives her whole heart" to the person that Among so many "boring and Anodyne people"can make her happy. She changes her whole personality and appearence so happy can love her,but happy is not into her. The cookie wrappeds are A representation of the 'Crumbs" of Interest that "happy" gives her.

it’s so late in the night and i can’t formulate the words to describe how i feel as well as i would like to. i happened to find your channel about an hour ago and i’ve just been going down and watching things over and over, and this one is one that resonates with me to an inexplicable degree. if we were not strangers, i would share everything just to speak on how much this animation means to me. i’m so choked up because, although i’m not sure if the protagonist is meant to represent you, their true appearance looks just about how i did when i had have own “happy.” The ending of this animation is worth so many words to me, as now I am not only mentally a new person but I physically changed so much to the point where the person I was at the time is purely unrecognizable to my peers. The physical changes has had upsides and downsides, the downsides making me see my own reflection as monstrous like the protagonist in the end. However, mentally, I have consistently felt like that grotesque amalgamation of myself and “happy.” It goes even further if you consider the comments about the protagonist and “bike guy” getting together, I’m not sure about your intentions for him, but if this was a storybook I’d write my own chapter for myself where that does happen. I say that because I have my own “bike guy” as well, whom, in the last ditch effort to save my “happy” carried me all the way. In my epilogue of this story, the protagonist would save him from drowning and form a relationship with him. I understand this implies the protagonist would be his “happy,” that is the point, as the phrase “the abused becomes the abuser” is something that constantly looms over me when my behavior reminds me of “happy.” I would absolutely love to see the protagonist go on to struggle with their new, well, everything and how they’d try to balance it out in a new relationship. as much as i would like to project and wish them a happy ending, i know that isn’t always accurate. i hope that is the case for me, though, because i still have my “bike guy” and he has been patient with me even in my ugliest times. again it’s very late and i’m not sure at all if any of this has made sense, but regardless of sensibility i still thank you for this animation. i adore mitski and this has somehow managed to grow my adoration for her even larger. your art has impacted so many people across your channel comments, you truly should be so very proud of yourself for touching so many people’s hearts. i could only dream of doing the same with my words. thank you so much
