I honestly thought it was a fairly weak song. At least, from Mitski where so much of the appeal is the very confessional lyrics, it felt kind of... obvious, almost. Like this Faustian bargain thing where she gives away her soul "just to give it" and then the song kind of just enters this random climax after plodding for 3 minutes. It feels like something someone would write to make fun of how they think Mitski sounds. It's not a bad song, but I don't know why that is one people latched onto while something like The Frost is so rarely talked about.

@@Billiamwoodswhat tf r u talking about. first of all, it cant be a faustian bargain as she didnt give her soul up for worldly gains but just for the hell of it, or more so coz she felt weighed down by it. also if u think the climax was random i have nothing to say, her soul being actually taken away by the night and returning to her in the form of a bird and announcing to her material body how she's just a cage and how she'll never be free is a very beautiful ending

One of my best friends of all time died unexpectedly this week and he was San Francisco's busiest music nerd. I've been looking for an album to escape his wrath for 5 seconds but he's so connected to everything, it's been hard. Because the album also has to be very good to hold my attention. Incomes this new mitski. I wasn't sure what to think of it at first, only that I needed to hear it again. Not only does it help me think about something else that he wasn't super connected with, but it's really unique and engaging actually! It's kind of putting me on this little piece of land with pretty insects and lush prairies in a little cabin. Definitely the escape from the hustle bustle I've been looking for. Hits the spot. Unique and enthralling enough to most likely end up on my top 10 of the year.

Mitski is one of my favorite current artists and it always takes me a few listens to fall in love with her songs. First listen I’m like “cool” third listen I’m like “that was a masterpiece”. I don’t know why that is, but anyway I loved this album. But I’ve probably listened to it at least 20 times. Mitski talked about how much she loves familiarity in a video where she was talking about the making of I Love Me After You and I think that’s how I am with music. I listen to the same songs over and over until they become part of my soul.

Could you listen to “Being Human” by Mike Sabbath and the Moongirls, their debut album that came out in 2023, a band of all men that blends disco, funk, and pop. I discovered them right after they released their second single in preparation for their debut album. There are some great bops on the album, and the lead singer I believe is the prodigy of Pharrell Williams as well has had some features on some pretty prominent pop albums of the last few years. Obviously not the best album of all time, but a very solid debut with a lot of future potential for the band.

I love music it gives me life and I love listening to nerdy music stuff but I feel like none of the rules of songwriting apply to mitski because she’s a lyricist first and foremost. When you judge her albums lyrics are the first thing you need to look at. I agree she used to explore and have much more diversity sound wise in puberty 2 era but I feel like she’s found her sound now and she’s sticking to it and her fans (me) don’t mind because we come for the lyrics and the out of body experience. It’s kind of beautiful in the metaphoric sense that during the puberty 2/ makeout creek eras she was still finding herself and dealing with her own shit yk? Exploring herself and her music. The anger was heavy on the drums, screams made synth sounds etc but now she’s found her peace (like in my love mine all mine she mentions “my baby”) and her sounds are much less jarring now. Idk mitski more needs to be analysed by book and poetry nerds than music nerds. Not to say this wasn’t an amazing video! Love the content

My Love Mine All Mine could legitimately be the best song of the year. Awesome short but bone-crushing in its simplicity and mood.
