If i'm not mistaken, that smaller differential that came out of the truck is the 8" 10 bolt ring gear. Have it in my gen 2 swb pajeros, 4.875 gearing much like some of the monteros up there. I believe it can also accept the 5.2 3rd member from the diesel j-top pajeros.

Id check the valve cover for leakage or possibly a vacuum hose (or all of them) is cracked or disconnected and spewing oil everywhere when its being driven and the blowby is pressurizing the crankcase
