I live in Portland Oregon, and I am a delivery driver I just picked one of these two-wheel drives up for a reasonable price with low miles. They have ample power, and a beautiful design, I just am still trying to find people who have these vehicles. I don't know their lifespan, but I love mine.

heaps here in Australia, I live in WA and every person and mechanic I've asked seem to vouch for them as good cars. I'm buying one today and I'm very excited haha

@@boulala21 I've also just read-up all about the way the 4WD/AWD system of the outlander's Power Transfer Unit works, alongside that ASC (anti-slip/spin Control) works, in conjustion with the ABS (braking system) - to control "same axle slippage" meaning that the 2wd / 4wd auto & 4wd LOCK of the Outlander - doesn't need to have axle lockers as well as that center lock function. Brilliant system as it appears to be better equipped for NZ off-road / mud & snow - than the old 1996 Mitsi Delica 4wd Starwagon - that I had (for the past 18 or so years) before this 2005 Mitsi Outlander...

@@boulala21 Re: Observing the difference between LOCKERS (in old 4wd modes) .. And an AWD/4WD system with just a center lock and an ASC function - that acts as if axle lockers (by controlling the ABS system). Referenced from: www.outsideonline.com/2096381/4wd-vs-awd-whats-difference [quote] Technology Is Replacing Mechanical Capability Off-road, your vehicle’s capability used to depend on 4WD, locking diffs, and other specialty components. Technology is changing that. These days, people want the vehicles to be able to crawl the Rubicon Trail and lap the Nurburgring. Traction control is making that possible. Who needs an expensive, seldom-used locking differential when you can just trick your ABS system into doing the same job? By selectively actuating the brake on a spinning wheel, this technology mimics the effect of a locker, directing torque to the wheel with traction. These days, traction control has become so effective that it’s able to catch a spinning wheel within 1/100th of a rotation. It automatically provides the benefits of a locker, without you needing to know when to use one. The only downside comes from the fact that you’re robbing torque from the engine to get traction-fine, if you have more than enough torque, but bad if you don’t have the gearing to find it. You can actually use your left foot to mimic this. The next time your AWD Subaru is stuck, with one wheel spinning uncontrollably, try left foot braking while modulating the gas pedal with your right. That should send power towards the wheel that has grip, allowing you to drive right on out. [unquote]

hey mate, how would you describe in a few words the main difference between 4wd and the 4wd differencial lock? I didn't really get the difference. Thanks

4WD Auto is like all wheel drive. 4WD Lock is like a standard 4WD for slick surfaces only and has the front and rear locked together. Thanks
