Mitsubishi used to be well regarded in the UK when they sold the Mitsubishi Evo rally-based performance cars. The 4x4s were also popular. They didn't upgrade their cars for years and withdrew completely from the UK. Nobody misses them

I have a outlander phev, when I bought it there weren't many EVs available, I get 90km off a charge, which costs about 1.20 off my solar, I average 1.6 litres per 100km which is acceptable, they are selling a lot of these in the USA, the Mitsubishi test vehicle has done 450000 km without problems, Mitsubishi used to be competitive in the rally world, Mitsubishi is a huge company, cars are just one of there products.

We used to own an Outlander PHEV. We bought it new in 2017. It ran faultlessly and comfortably until 2021, when we hit a deer which ran out into the road. The collision triggered the airbags and that is enough these days to write the car off. I nearly cried. It was a thoroughly competent vehicle that did everything we needed. It felt higher quality than it probably was, in engineering terms. I heard Mitsubishi didn’t want to try to cheat to meet emissions standards (like many other automakers) so they pulled out of the U.K. to concentrate on markets that didn’t have stupid rules that required cheating to comply. I respect that.

I think that if someone says they've "...just wasted hours researching Mitsubishi..." or similar and then complain that the new Triton is basically the same as the old model, then their research technique is at fault, not Mitsubishi. These people need to learn how to research properly. I did, and an article by Drive from November 1 2023 reveals that the Triton PHEV is under development. As are a number of (Mitsubishi) PHEV vehicles, and I'd suggest that development of BEVs is also underway as well. Nissan and Renault both have electric vehicles in their lineups overseas. I believe that Mitsubishi and its parent company are doing okay but could be doing better, but predicting their imminent demise could well be premature.

Owned a number of Mitsubishis prior to moving to EVs and they were incredibly reliable cars (my son still drives a Mitsubishi 380 we have had for 16 years and has had zero issues apart from usual maintenance). Remember they were a pioneer in the EV space (i-MiEV) like Nissan and the Leaf, but they didn't do much to innovate after that (Outlander PHEV excepted). First commercially available directed injected petrol engine as well. Triton is known as the most reliable of the dual cab utes

I am still amazed that Mitsubishi was one of the first with an electric car (MIEV) but just scrapped it after a few years without a next generation. Just at the time when the internal combustion engine was planned to be sunset in Europe and the USA. They made the excellent Outlander and Mirage, but the replacement??? Renault Clio rebadged? I would buy it, as it has a very generous warrantly (much better than Renault). And I have seen the crossover hybrid replacing the Mirage. It doesn't. It is much more expensive, much heavier and bigger than the Mirage. I deplore that.I own a Mirage and I am enthousiastic about it.

Years ago we owned a fuel-efficient Mitsubishi Galant that ran like a sewing machine. In 2012 we bought a Mitsubishi I-Miev and have enjoyed 12 years of trouble-free, fun driving of this wonderful "town" car in our small mountain town. We use the car as a delivery vehicle and it is so easy to park in small spaces and costs almost nothing to charge. The battery has degraded somewhat where we notice slower acceleration during winter weather, but still feels like we have several years of driving left on it. Peace

I graduated on the market introduction of the Mitsubishi iMiev. It was unfortunately already clear to me back then that they were not taking the move to EV’s serious. They had a reliable EV back in 2009, but they didn’t push it. They could’ve competed with the Nissan Leaf, but they chose not to. Now they will go bankrupt and then a Chinese conglomerate will buy the brand and create the next MG.

I gotta admit, the new Outlander PHEV looks nice inside and out. But they are AUD$72k - 80k here in Australia. Yes, there is one grade that is $60k, bottom of the range with nothing good, no wireless phone charging, no leather etc. That's up against hybrid RAV4 ($57k), Tesla Model Y ($64k), Nissan X-Trail e-Power ($62k), Mazda CX-60 ($70k). I'm waiting to see how much the Kia EV5 will be priced at and then I'll make a decision.

It’s not just Mitsubishi, the whole Japanese auto industry is in a state of denial. Cars are Japan’s major export and income earner. Alarm bells should have rung when Tesla’s Model Y outsold Toyota’s RAV4 and Corolla. Yet Japan refuses to make Electric Vehicles. As you suggested, a country run by old men, for which their younger generation will pay a hefty price.

Tesla only makes a few models. And Toyota and Honda had record profits in FY2023. They were so maxed out in their production capacity, customers are still waiting for months for their cars. At the moment, there is no point in making EVs in large number because majority of customers don't want them. And GM, Ford, Hyundai, and most Chinese automakers still lose money in making EVs. I don't know what kind of consulting you do, but making products that customers don't want and losing billions of USD in the process isn't a sustainable business. FYI, 80% of Tesla sales comes from certain zipcodes that vote for a certain party. And they often own multiple cars. That is the reality of the US EV sales at the moment.

The battery easily fits under the body once you get rid of the fuel tank and gearbox. As for the Outlander, if you take out the fuel tank and exhaust you can get about 55kWh. The performance would be the same except for range and you would have a really big frank.

Mitsubishi Xpander and Xpander Cross selling well in Asia to the point they are going head to head with Toyota MPVs. MPVs have virtually replaced sedans as the most popular ride in Asia even over crossovers. So much of this success that Nissan's own MPV, the Livina, is only a rebadged version of it. I will go on and say that if BEV is to continue penetrating the Asian market, it needs an MPV form factor. Mitsubishi's Triton is a big seller too, as well as the SUV based on it, the Pajero Sport or Montero Sport, depending how its called on your region. The new Triton is likely the basis for the new Frontier and Navara in the future. The overlanding camper van is based on the Mitsubishi Delica, which is popularly used in Japan as an overlanding vehicle. But as a van, the Delica is primarily a commercial vehicle. Mitsubishi has also recently released a subcompact cross over in Asian markets that competes against the Yaris Cross. I think Mitsubishi isnt doing badly given their focus on economy, masses oriented vehicles, given the highly inflated environment thats going to bring Armageddon to car makers with overpriced vehicles. The reliability and simplicity of Mitsubishi vehicles have made them very popular in the emerging markets which is where the world's economy going to be.

Im pretty sure Toyota will eventually own or have ownership in most japanese brands, they have already saved Daihatsu and Subie, my guess Mitsubishi is next followed by Mazda and then Honda, Nissan im not so sure about they will problaly be fully owned by Renault.

The Japanese are being idiots. Mitsubishi could install a bigger battery to an Outlander PHEV, remove the ICE and they have an EV. Not really that hard. The Outlander PHEV is already a short range EV. It just needs a bigger battery. The same for the Nissan Xtrail E-power. Those two are in a class that doesn't have EVs available. They would do well because they would have little competition.

I have a 2023 Outlander PHEV company car. It aversges about 5 liters/ 100km and around 40-50km per full charge real world. Its not good enough. They need a full Outlander or RVR electric vehicle.

I have the Outlander from 2020. It has the same results as you describe. But I find that quite good. Most of my driving is locally, so it is on battery. And when using gas, it is at 16 km / liter. That is a lot better than my previous Toyota Verso, even if the Outlander weighs about 400 kg more. So I just hope M will stay in business for 4-6 years, so I can get this nice car serviced. After that I will go Robotaxi (hopefully) 😊

It's mind boggling to me that Mitsubishi hasn't already entered the EV game with a standalone platform, given that Mitsu Heavy deals in electrical propulsion for mining and rail. They have the means and minds to do it. I guess it's just the will lacking.

Is there really an “EV revolution” in progress. If that is true why are 45,000 unsold Teslas sitting in various yards all over the US. I assume they’ll eventually sell (at a huge discount probably). Also there are thousands of cheap Chinese EVs parked at various European ports, Antwerp for example. Some have been there for 18 months. So at the present time I don’t think I’d be using the word “revolution” in reference to EVs.

I don’t know if I would describe the uptake of EVs as an “EV revolution”. There were 92 million new registrations globally in 2023 of which 14 million were EVs. The number of EVs sold annually is increasing but the number of new conventional ICE vehicles sold globally annually is also increasing, so the uptake of EVs is more of an “addition” to the mix of vehicles in the world fleet.

EV is the disruptive auto technology. Once EV sales hit 10% the game is over. This just happened on a global basis. Now the sales curves with ICE cars will cross in an X, with the "valley of death" for intermal combustion right in the middle! Doesn't matter when, it's already unstoppable.

Hi. You have some interesting things to say. But your mic technique makes me turn this off. The sound of the room is awful, too many reflections off the walls, not pleasant. And you punctuate your words with your hand on the desk (or something similar) so it's thud thud thud. You need a more directional mic that is not in contact with a desk that you thump and you need to roll off the low end so thumping gets reduced. Good luck.

There is not a single Mitsubishi sold that is a rebadged Renault or Nissan. Meanwhile all Nissan Kei cars are rebadged Mitsubishi. They are way ahead in the plugin hybrid with power to home game. All being allroad or offroad vehicle. In Japan they are the only ones with offroad minivan offering. They have the cleanest latest diesel engine on the jdm market (allowed at least until 2050 IN japan, no end date for their other east asian markets) Heard about the oil reserve discovered by Russia lately, more than Saudi Arabia. Seriously, between this and their cult custo er base in South East asia I would not worry too much for them. Another greatly (un) researched video… quantity over quality as usual. You stated you don’t know anyone who buys Mitsubishi cars because they are loyal to them. Reading this now you do. Since 1978 when I was 18 I purchased my first Mitsubishi. Since then I have purchased 27 Mitsubishi cars. Your biggest hate seems to be the electric junk, which in Australia, for Australian conditions these electric junk are just not suited. If you really spent your wasted time looking at Mitsubishi future you might have found the Triton as a mid size Ute will soon be on the American market. The PHEV in many countries is in the top selling numbers. Mitsubishi Motors Company is ina better financial position than its sisters Nissan and Renault. I think your real beaf is they don’t make them in your favourite country China and they only make partial electric cars. So incorrect you are.
