Great comparison video man! And I have no doubt that Austrian Audio is the real deal! If I remember correctly it was started by a small group of ex, long-time employees of AKG (and not the people in the shipping department) who lost their jobs when AKG shut their doors in Vienna. Unfortunately I havent had the pleasure to work with any of their mics 😢.

Ok, just bought it, was lucky it came into a store I was looking at, shooting out with my other mics, sounds very neutral not overhyped for the lack of a better term. very low noise (also surprising) For the money really didn't go wrong I think.

I didn't need to see that metal sheet music stand behind the mic directly opposite of Bella and Michael, I could hear it. On Bella, from 600-800hz and, on Michael, from 900hz-1.1k. The dropout at those frequencies of the phase interference spikes the mic's internal components, it's sudden bursts of phase coherent information at the specific frequencies that match the angle + width just right to pump the back side of the mic to where on the peaks of the comb filtering you get spikes that are almost transient. On a crappy mic (read: almost everything sub $1,000) that would have led to internal clipping and harshness at those points, overloading which couldn't be corrected by backing away just altering which frequencies aligned and didn't to produce a skewed response, but the O16 handled it pretty good, nearly correctable. So good that I could hear it without isolating anything, no need for tight bandpass filters. That's not the case even on Neumann's $1,000 mics. Lessons here are 1) you failed *Commandment #2 of being a recording engineer and 2) you are absolutely right about that microphone, it likely is the best affordable condenser mic on the planet. But, that also makes it the most dangerous microphone on the planet. If you doubt me, put SplitEQ on it, turn tonal info down, set the difference at over 60, and sweep through with a bandpass at a Q of at least 5. Once your ear tweaks out stop right there and replay 30 seconds or so switching in/out the tonal info. It's the recording engineers' version of learning how to hear compression. I know you'll catch it because I know you have good ears. It's like anything else, once you are aware of it you will never be unaware of it. *Commandment #2 is keep reflective surfaces to a minimum, Commandment #1 is Lock the door, there are crackheads out there, Commandment #3 is DON'T DROP THE F$^(%ing MICROPHONE, Commandment #4 is reference everything, don't EVER just stick a mic up and go ''trusting your whack opinionated ears'' like a dipshit, #5 is airplane mode, bruh, airplane mode, it's your friend, 6-10 are like don't sit drinks on the console, always wrap cables under/over, etc. You mix guys crack me up.

Would love to hear how this sounds when using a colour preamp along with it. What you get from it seems worthy of a high-end preamp. For the fact you will be adding to the source with it rather than trying to replace things that aren't there

Interesting video! , Was looking at the oc18 , do you know the difference to the 0c16? seems like its better choice for home studio being cheaper and likely pretty similar quality wise I would imagine?

The main differences are lower noise floor for the 18, more choices for the HPF and pads.

The OC16 really sounds nice! How would you compare it to the JZ V12?

Very different. Both great mics but V12 is much more colored, brighter, OC16 is neutral and almost fool proof. You will never say "this is not the right mic" with the OC16. The V12 will be a better choice when you want that classic C12 sound and top end, but it will be less versatile.

I wouldn't say it's similar. AA mics have a way to be flattering while being neutral, their ceramic capsules are really something special

@@mixbustv That actually might be true because I use the hi x55 for some time and I find their response much smoother compared to other headphones I have(m40x and K550). I wonder why some people say they have unnatural response.. It is something to do with the high excursion driver and the tuning of course, but the driver I think plays a major role. I believe their mics would give similar impression of snappiness and quickness.

I hear clicking also but that’s from having volume too high to the guy below with clicking that’s actually feedback. I have the oc16 also this exactly how feel about this mic oc18 for half the price. Oc18 have a lower sensitivity but I think that’s done on purpose.

It has great intelligibility on these phone speakers I'm watching on too. It sounds crystal clear all the way down to the lowest this phone can handle with no distortion in the mid highs, which this phome can sometimes have issues with (usually with heavily compressed stuff, but even the loudest bits were crystal). I can't wait to hear on my monitors in the morning when I can play louder stuff.
