Back in the day I was not so much happy that my studio is in the different place from where I live but now I appreciate the ability to do breaks effectively spending 4 hours at the studio and going home. Next morning I listen to the mix at home and add comments to the tracks on what should be done next.

Taking breaks - that's my biggest issue. Time does fly when you're focused, but I need to be better at setting an alarm every hour to give my ears and brain a break!!

Great video and tips. Especially about the deadlines. It forces you to focus. Nice plugin the last one. Except for the "plugin manager" you have to install. They are more and more frequent, running in the background. I hate that.

Hhi Chris. The biggest issue i have is to make the transition from live sound engineer to studio mixing. For example: Recorded a band i was mixing on a festival and the live sound was amazing. Multitracking into cubase so i could mix it at home, but i get no where near my live mix... And this happens on more than one occasion.
@mixdownonline8 ай бұрын
Those are 2 completely different worlds. What helps a lot when recording a "live" show is a good hall recording to blend with the close mics.

Great vid!! I've been trying to limit the amount of plug ins I use on a mix... 1 channel strip type (api, neve....ect), a couple of diffrent compressors....... I find it really speeds things up, but also starts sounding more cohesive.

Chris hi, nice presentation which is easy to follow. This rooky question is far away from mixing and sorry if this is not the place to ask you. If i send my new original song to a mix or master Engineer, if the song is quite good whats stops my idea's being shared with others before it is released, keep up the great work regards Graeme from Australia.

New sub here... Not sure if you've already done a video on this before, but I'd really like to see what plugins and a run down of how to use reference tracks in a mix within cubase. I don't mix my own songs but I like to get them as close as possible before sending them to an engineer, it helps with producing if I have a well balanced track. But the one thing I've never done is used reference tracks and I think it's something I need to start doing. The best way to line eq curves up and reference against certain elements of a track really, as I'm ridiculously eclectic and I can find inspiration from a lot of different sources / genres and not always an entire song. Any help would be 🤌🏻

Im in a loop mixing a song from 2021, it takes 2 computers to run with freezed instruments and buses exported to audio, you have to wait 3 seconds from the moment you hit play on the cc121 til the moment you start hearing, the buffer is set to the max and all systems have been checked to deliver their max, it takes so long that Im already tired by the first listening on a 8 bar loop...help !!

Render your takes that your happy with, along with all the plugins you used, then keep rendered version and remove all plugins it should help free up space so you can actually listen to the entirety of it. 😁😁 Hope this is helpful for you

I still hybrid record, edit & mix all at the same time...One day I have to export all my VSTs to audio, and then ACTUALLY JUST USE a mix template for mixing...
@mixdownonline8 ай бұрын
As a music producer, this is what I've been doing for years, commit and export all VSTs before mixing, but everyone has it's own workflow, and that's definately ok.

I have massive anxiety and sonis impissible for me to create I stare at the blank Daw,losd an instrument,play around with a few presets and then just dont know how to start then clise the DAW. Then I think of killing myself like now. I opened up Sampletank 4's edit page and tried to understand everything in there and I have no clue then I go to bed in a terrible state. How on Earth do you start a song staring at an empty DAW?
@psychedelicelvis-7778 ай бұрын
Just mess about with it however you like, that's what I do, then what happens over time is a build up of experiences being logged in your memory until it reaches a tipping point and the magic starts to happen, faith and patience are key and remember don't try to impress anyone but yourself and above all enjoy it !
