King of Reads I think it’s ok for mixed people to be mixed and have their own separate spaces. Because what happens is mixed people take roles as black characters because they fit more into the European aesthetic. Which ends up erasing black people. Especially if they are dark skinned. It’s ok to acknowledge biracials as black and white, even though they are also vulnerable to anti-black racism it’s not in the same way darker skinned black people are.

I cannot watch Blackish, it’s as if they’re explaining things to White people, and non-Blacks. A study showed that White people actually watch the show more than Blacks. The name mixedish just sounds weird, and Blackish sounds weird too. It’s just all weird and not really meant or us.

I do agree with the fact that blackish is already a mixedish not even just because the mother is mixed but the entire premise of the show revolves around the fact that since the parents have acquired wealth they feel as if their kids and themselves are so far removed from the black experience thus creating the term black-ish it’s the story is not relatable to most black people

Highkey, feel like they put Aaron in an interracial relationship because he's the darkest person on the show. Just juxtaposing that with how he feigned interest in dark skin African girl bc the twins and Luka dragged him for his colorist ways...which is never properly delved into or fully, thoughtfully challenged. It comes off pretty anti-dark skin. For people who have an issue with dark skin it just makes sense to them that a browner person would naturally be adverse or just not see beauty in a person darker than them, and that's the type of content Barris generates imo.

It never sat well with me and felt as though the producers were trying to say, " Look at this Black family thats not REALLY a black family because 4 out of the five kids are of a lighter complexion. @@audib6592 I actually like the name "Black-ish" even though I grew up in a rural community, I can relate to a lot of the issues they have on the show. Funny thing is that my parents never wanted to move to a white neighborhood or join the country club even thought they were asked numerous times. My actual family are several different shades of blackness so I understand that but did you notice in the movie US the family was brown/dark COMPLECTED and AFFLUENT!? Which I liked. And if you notice it's the husband who grew up in the hood who is straddling the fence of raising his kids in two different worlds. The wife also has a somewhat foreign experience because she was raised a mixed race kid of hippies in a commune The creator Kenya Barris based it on his life and his wife who is the mixed race real life Dr. Rainbow.

I love this show. I’m a mixed child and I identify a great deal with this show. It’s hard being of two worlds and trying to figure out where you fit in. You’re either too this or too that for either side so to see a show like this that has some comic relief but tackles the issues I’ve dealt with is refreshing not only for my but for my own children as they grow up.

NOT a YT Guru ! Ohh. That logic seems weird to me. When dark skinned women are excluded, it's colorist. But when they're included, it's fetishization? Idk. I think Tika is a dumb choice because the real mom was much lighter and damn near white-passing. Maybe the producers just wanted to capitalize off of the new awareness and attention surrounding dark-skinned people in the black community. I guess they think people will pay more attention to it if there is a bigger contrast between the man's color and the woman's color. A light-skinned woman wouldn't look as different next to a fully white man.
@notaytguru8214
@notaytguru8214 5 жыл бұрын
Morgan Carroll agreed, people are equally bothered when they’re excluded as included. I’ll never get it. I remember watching a review of the movie girls trip. People were upset that a dark skin woman was portrayed as oversexy. If the character was lightskin, the commentary would have changed to Hollywood doesn’t think dark skin women can play sexy roles. I was just happy a lot of sistas were working 🤷🏽‍♀️ And yea, her playing the mom is terrible since they already showed her in present time. Seeing the contrast of a dark woman next to a white man does make it stand out more. The woman they currently have playing bow’s mother is racially ambiguous to me, she doesn’t scream black woman

This is crazy and so disappointing... my teen daughter loved this show but I've been leary for a while😣 she's a creative who writes fiction and lately her characters have all been biracial...when I gently asked where are the beautiful dark skinned girls like her she basically echoed the lie that her stories wouldn't appeal widely if characters are 'just' black. My heart is broken but we're being sent this msg constantly

The writers were sloppy with certain details of the show. Rainbow Johnsons birthday in Blackish is October 29, 1976. If she was born in 1976 she would be 9 in 1985 however the age she's playing in Mixedish in 1985 is 12. Those kind of oversights irk me!

Realistically it makes MORE sense to cast Tika anyway! If Rainbow’s mom was really as Ambiguous as the current actress playing her, Rainbow would be straight up WHITE looking, not the beige and relatively African-American looking Tracy Ross we have, I could see Tracy Ross (who honestly doesn’t look THAT mixed) being the product of Tika and a white man, and there is NOTHING wrong with mixed people’s story being told, I REPEAT, there is NOTHING wrong with mixed people’s story being told, just because YOU don’t see it as worthy and “hard enough” of an identity, does not mean that others won’t!!!

I'm interested in if mixed people will relate to it because I've heard enough stories of them feeling like they don't belong to either side, so it could be interesting if done right. I would rather it be about a different unrelated family though.

I legit dont understand people getting so in their feeling over mixedish. See how black ish was addressing raising mixed kids in a generation where black culture ire becoming pop culture. Most of the "black" content is from Dre and his parents, whom has a very stereotypical black upbringing and struggles in wanting to impart this to his kids while learning to let go on the black stereotypes/traditions that are unhealthy. Mixedish is about raising sheltered mixed race children in a generation with interracial couples were starting to be accepted. Its not even close to the same show so why are yall so mad at it. Most of yall had an upbringing like Dre, but how many hear can honestly say theyve ever heard of a person raised in a cult where race was not taught, brought into a society where races lines and stereotypes where already dealt, and had to learn to adapt to what they could only understand as madness. Thats a unique pov and it DESERVES its own show.

What's weird is that the woman that plays rainbows mom currently, more than likely wouldnt produce rainbow, Santa Monica and the other brother. She would probably produce children that looked like Mariah Carey which tracee Ellis Ross does not. More often than not, when u have a very light black person mate with a white person the child comes out Mariah Carey or halsey like. It makes sense more sense for a woman like Tika Sumpter and a white man to produce a rainbow. But they messed that all up with the woman they have playing rainbows mom now. Idk.....but this show may or may not go over well.

@Turquoise Purple Sky I said typically, not always. Diana Ross has a bit more color than the actress who plays rainbows mother. I know what my family produces and looks like so I have in house knowledge. Look at me....I know a bit about this lol. If I didnt know Diana Ross was with a white man, I would have thought tracee was just a lightskin black woman. People think 2 black parents cant produce a child that looks like Tracee and they can.
@TTSantiago821
@TTSantiago821 5 жыл бұрын
@Turquoise Purple Sky they are. And when I saw the woman who played rainbows mother, I thought it was odd. Girls who look like Alicia keys, yara shahidi, and tracee Ross typically have a brown or darker skin parent when one parent is white.

It's the Meghan Markle effect...black people, especially, I have to say it, black women, elevated Markle since her marriage to Harry. So now Hollywood is capitalizing on it. How many black people were checking for Markle prior to her engagement and marriage to Harry? It's going to be black women claiming Markle's 75% white child and elevating her white child as a black child...we are sometimes the instrument to our own erasure when it come to representation.

I’m on the fence about it. Having a show about growing up mixed in America will definitely be representation for lots of people, but it will be repetitive since they’ve covered it on blackish. Rainbows parents were very boring. The mother seemed to have an interesting point of view, but coupled with the dad they became a stereotypical hippie couple

I love your view on it. Honestly, I'm just tired of media trying to shove how progressive they are. Being half white and half Mexican, I don't care about learning what it's like to grow up mixed; I lived it. I miss the shows that cover the controversial shit without going out of their way to show off. Fresh Prince was a great show and they never had to stress race; when Uncle Phil went to that police station and chewed the cops out for arresting Will because he was a black man driving a nice car in a white neighborhood, that was a DEEP impact. But that's just my opinion.
