Mixed reaction, confusion over UC Berkeley's rebrand with new logo

I don't see how rebranding to "B" addresses the confusion that Cal and Berkeley are the same school. When I saw the new logo, I did not attribute it to either Cal or Berkeley. I think this only leads to more confusion. Furthermore, this new logo completely disregards the long standing culture and history of Berkeley which is embodied by the seal. I'm not happy with this rebrand

we lose language we lose culture. why is everything being "dumbed down" to single letters/syllables as in "dub" for warriors ? "X" instead of twitter. everything in byte-sized pieces for the younger generation. i am a boomer and historical context provides meaning and fosters pride and loyalty. this is the end of that. smh

People unfamiliar w/ higher education just don't have a clue. Someone compared her son going to ITT, when they heard about a relative's child getting accepted to MIT. 🙄 Not at all comparable & likely not your target demographic. 25% but what was your 'n' in the survey? Where did you survey? Same for the non-Bay area residents? Did you ask college-bound high-school students? Amused they want to use the Boston Red Sox stylized "B." As if silly people didn't already confuse it w/ Berklee College of Music there. Should have focused on the "Cal" logo. This is part of the bizarre branding craze in the Bay, like OAK wanting to rename itself SF Bay Oakland International Airport, which will only breed confusion. They're International trying to draw away customers from SFO. So is Cal trying to get more out-of-state students, who pay higher tuition? 🤔

This is a ridiculous non-controversy. If somebody doesn't know that Cal is UC Berkeley, they're probably not interested in higher education, not a potential donor, not a current or future student, and definitely not a Cal alumnus. So, who cares? Cal grad, Physics, '85.

25% of bay areans don't know? There are 3 good reasons, there are way less people who will even sniff getting accepted to Cal, so they don't care, Cal sports has been sucking, so they don't care, or they aren't rooted around here so they don't care.
