Nice but: Too expensive not even taking in account the price of the controllers, base stations and wireless audio solution on top 🥶 We have to wait few years for the market to become reseanable, I don't imagine the look of the games that runs 4k*2 at 90hz. We also have no info about motion clarity yet. I'm still waiting for a headset with a similar weight of the beyond/meganex light with visual specs close to a quest 3 without camera, autonomous XR2 bullshit, batteries so we can cut on the price (and weight) and have a dp port for no compression. Kinda like a beyond 2, without the glare, motion blur, pannel limitation at max res/refresh rate and other issues...

It looks super good, but I find myself wondering if this is a replacement to the non 8k version, or if that under 1700 usd version they mentioned to you then, is still going to come. I also would like to ask if you can ask them if they ever plan to add AMD support like Pimax has begun doing. The website says it only works on /with Nvidia GPU's.

This sounds like exactly what i want right now. I just want high quality eye tracking that can potentially be used for foveated rendering. this is a big must for resolutions like these. Unfortunately we probably won't see full utilization until the next valve headset forces steam support for such a thing. I would still like the hardware if I'm to leave the Beyond.

It looks like a clever design for the Headstrap. I like the move in and out with the flip up feature. But, Pimax Crystal Light is going to be my PCVR headset for many moons 🌙. This MeganeX definitely looks exciting and solves many problems. My concerns are #1 cost, and then how durable the lens coating will be, no built-in audio solution, and no info on a microphone. It will also be interesting to see how they solve refresh rate through the PC connection.

This is what I was expecting from Google, Meta, HTC like 2 years ago. I feel like should add a part to make this into inside out tracking as well. I do think inside out is now the default min for tracking. Base station set-up is just a no-go. It would be great if they partnered with meta to run their OS; this would open the market up beyond PC VR.

Wow at least based on your initial impressions it seems to have The Beyond beat in every area except looks (this one is personal but I doubt many will are you The Beyond looks worse) and the custom fit interface (which some people see as a drawback because they can’t share it). Well I guess The Beyond could be lower on price too since I haven’t heard an official price for The Megane X. Such an exciting time for PCVR fans and thanks for the video!

Wished it was wireless instead of wired, I'm not too fond of cable getting in the way, also full body tracking movements need wireless so you don't need to worry about cable hanging on your headset.

Unfortunately micro oled panels are difficult to produce in high yields, that is why quest 3 does not have them nor future ones like quest 4 and such.

@@AlexysRM I'm aware of that. Foveated rendering helps performance around 20%, so it does also in Pimax Crystal. Both have foveated rendering and eye tracking, and still this MeganeX has 8k pixels vs 5k in the Crystal.

For VRChat people on Lighthouse gear with FBT and who have Diver-X, UDCAP, or Immersive Gloves coming in the future, this is a no brainer upgrade from the Index. From the Beyond, it might possibly be worth it. Would be nice to get a more details on the lenses and the comfort of the headstrap. Wonder why they aren't utilizing that slot on the forehead for a top strap yet?

I like how they mount it to the headstrap with what looks like someting from a night vision army helmet mount, that gives it a lot of adjustment and flip-up ability. Those things are expensive though

Great review, thanks! Personally I do not mind that it is lighthouse tracked, I have Reverb G2 en before that an Index. The headset tracking of the G2 is fine but that of the controllers is not, so therefore the lighthouse preference. Also I hope they’ll come up with an audio solution

It lacks the steampunk aesthetic of its predecessor but it looks awesome. I like Shiftall for their innovation but when you mention "the many different face shapes" I wish they'd made a facial interface that didn't push high pressure air in my eyes with every breath like with the Mutalk 2 - which when combined with Nvidia Broadcast Noise Reduction is a very effective, if uncomfortable and ridiculous looking product. The straps on the Megane X sl 8k appear to be very similar as those used on the Mutalk 2.

Never even knew this existed, I knew their last headset but presumed it failed completely. I like the design of this, it looks comfortable and quite stylish. I'd much rather a headset with this design than an aspheric HMD like the Crystal Light. The inside out tracking and controllers are a major stumbling block to me buying a non Meta HMD, I don't trust any of these small companies to produce anywhere near the quality that Meta do for that, but this could be great for flight simulation. Need to get Steve VRFlightSim Guy to review! Is the $1899 without tax? I assume for the UK market, with tax and shipping we'd be looking at around £2500?

I like the form factor, but having it rest on the forehead, even at its light weight, can give headaches. If it had eye tracking (likely unrealistic in the current gen micro -form factor) I would certainly be considering a pre-order. I need to see reviews.

The product is cool, but for this price it should at least have eye tracking. To be perfect it would have to have eye tracking + inside-out tracking. With both, it would be an excellent VR headset to carry around and perhaps use with a very powerful gaming notebook.

If image quality is pretty much your only desire for VR, then this sounds great. I however see 102fov as OK not good, 110 or around that is GOOD. IMO Also that price tag for a headset that appears to need light towers is a bit much. Guessing that display costs 80% of the price.

This needs to have eye tracking. I was considering buying one due to the DP connection and formfactor. But I already have ordered the Visor and the Play For Dreams MR which both have eye tracking and inside out tracking. Supposedly visor will have a thunderbolt connection which is higher bandwidth than DP1.4. Although I already have base stations and stream controllers, this product is a hard sell at that price. I will have to use its cost to go toward a new RTX 5090 instead.

Unfortunately, without eye tracking, this headset is a nonstarter for that high of a resolution. Even a 5090 won’t be able to push 90 FPS at full resolution. I will wait for the Pimax crystal super, OLED edition, which will have foveated rendering and inside out tracking for about the same price.

I may be wrong but the headstrap & lift mechanism looks very fragile. The small form factor is not a big issue for me. Something like the Oculus 3 with better OLED displays would be great. Also Oculus inside out tracking is also good enough for me. No built in audio is annoying. The final nail in the coffin for me is that heavy cable sticking out the side on a very light headset-no thanks.

It has some similarities to the big screen beyond, with the PSVR2 style face shield and the removable facial interface a bit like the quest, and the Sony XR HMD flip at the front.

I like this design better than the Beyond, put the weight of the device on the robust forehead and not on the sinus cavities on my face, also, the Beyond is suffocating! I don't care that its "only" 200g, its not comfortable.
